Student answer (Band 6.0)

In universities, some students want to learn additional subjects along with the main subject to get more knowledge and experience. In this regard, others argue that giving all the time and attention for studying for a particular qualification is a better approach. I believe even-though it is necessary to account more attention for main subject but it is also important for students to experience other additional subjects about which the essay will further discuss before citing a reasonable conclusion.

On the one hand, there are numerous benefits of adding additional subjects along with the main course such as, it will help the student to not only expertise in the main subject but will also allow him to get brief knowledge of the additional subject. Also, studying additional subject will help the student to get better job placement in the future as the additional subject will help the individual to get his or her resume shortlisted. To cite an example, companies prefer people with more knowledge and experience, and this criteria could be fulfilled by accounting for an additional subject along with the main professional course.

On the other hand, people who argue for giving all the time and attention to particular qualification subject believe that the performance of tests could be improved by shortlisting the number of subjects. In addition, people also believe that accounting the attention for various different subjects will make it difficult for student to manage the time. As a result, they believe that introduction of additional subjects will degrade students's performance in the main course.

To conclude, although there are few valid points that account for the latter most point yet the benefits of studying additional subject completely outweighs them. Thus, I firmly believe that students must learn other subjects along with their main professional qualification.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'job placement' is a good point, but it lacks specific, concrete examples to fully support the claim. The discussion on the opposing view is also quite general, focusing on time management without exploring the potential depth of academic focus. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and specific, real-world examples rather than relying on general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' are used to signal the progression of ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the phrase 'the latter most point' in the conclusion is slightly awkward and impacts the overall cohesion. Improving the variety and naturalness of your linking words will help elevate this score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'professional qualification' and 'job placement'. However, there is a tendency to repeat certain words, such as 'subject' and 'attention', which limits the sophistication of the writing. There are also some minor collocation issues, such as 'account more attention' instead of 'devote more attention' or 'focus more on'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and academic collocations to express your ideas with greater clarity and variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'even-though it is necessary to account more attention' (incorrect preposition/verb usage) and 'students's' (incorrect possessive). Additionally, some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'the performance of tests could be improved by shortlisting the number of subjects'. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences and focusing on accurate verb-preposition collocations will help you achieve a higher band score.
