IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. Others believe it is more important to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification. Discuss both these views and give your opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In today's academic environment theie is competiton between students. Few students wants to learn other subjects in addition to their main subject for their higher studies. While other students have trust in to give their best time and attention to studying for a qualification.
On the first hand who thinks that other addition subjects are studying with main subject is very best for their career and settle in future. Because it they do the addition subjects with main subject their thinking level and studying level is grow. Suppose if they don't get any job from the the subject which they choose for their better future, if they have knowledge about other subjects they can do interviews on several places and easily get job. They have more experience in study, because they have better experience the success is kissing their feet. Generally it's a good idea to improve learning skill and studying.
On the other hand few students have trust in to attention to their study for a qualification and not study on other subjects. Do best to your study for a higher qualification. These students think that other subjects can't get help in our future, suddenly if they study other subject and they don't give time to their main one and they failed from this subject and their time is waste. Some students kill himself if they failed, if we are studying for change of financial health in home we only studying our main subject and got a higher qualification and get well settled for their families. In my opinion i generally prefer to doing only main subject rather than other subject because if we want education we stop wasting of our time.
The conclusion will that students who wants success, big cars and get well settled in their life they stop wasting of their time in waste things.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times repetitive. The arguments for both sides are somewhat simplistic, relying on generalisations rather than well-supported examples. For instance, the claim that students 'kill himself if they failed' is an extreme and unsupported assertion that detracts from the academic tone. While the prompt is addressed, the depth of analysis is insufficient for a higher band, as the reasoning remains superficial throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'On the first hand' (instead of 'On the one hand') and 'The conclusion will that' demonstrate a lack of control over linking words. Furthermore, the progression of ideas within paragraphs is sometimes disjointed, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical flow of the argument at times.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'good idea', 'study', and 'subject'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'success is kissing their feet' and 'failed from this subject', which are not natural English expressions. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precision and the reliance on simple vocabulary restrict the score. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific collocations and more sophisticated academic vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede the reader's understanding. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Few students wants'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, and the misuse of prepositions is common. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, these are frequently faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. The high frequency of errors in basic grammar significantly impacts the overall quality of the writing.
