Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is widely been observed that some of the university students are demanding to learn about other subjects in addition to their core subjects. However, some students believe that it is paramount to invest all their time and attention to studying for a qualification. I believe that students who all are demanding to learn about some other subjects in addition to their main subjects because I think it can give us more knowledge and it will not be exhausting for some students who enjoy learning new subjects.
On the one hand, students who want to acquire about other subjects in addition to their main subjects are good at their own point of view. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, stopping abruptly at only 177 words. Due to this under-length condition, the ideas and arguments cannot be fully developed, directly impacting Task Achievement. While the student attempts to address both views and gives a personal opinion in the introduction, the second body paragraph remains incomplete and breaks off mid-sentence. Consequently, the discussion of the opposing view and the overall conclusion are missing, restricting the task response to a Band 4.5 level. To improve, the student must ensure the essay reaches the required length by fully developing each body paragraph with supporting explanations and examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays some basic organizational structure with an introduction and an opening sentence for a first body paragraph. Transitional phrases such as 'On the one hand' are used to signal logical progression. However, because the text cuts off mid-sentence in the second body paragraph, paragraphing is incomplete and overall cohesion is disrupted. Referencing is sometimes repetitive or unclear, such as in the awkward phrasing 'students who all are demanding'. While the student attempts to link ideas, the lack of a completed structure prevents the essay from achieving higher than a Band 5.0 in this category.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases like 'core subjects', 'undergraduate student', and 'worn-out' show an attempt to use topic-appropriate language. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations throughout the text, such as 'It is widely been observed', 'demanding to learn', and 'action-packed' when referring to studying new subjects. Spelling is generally correct, but word choice errors and unnatural phrasing cause some difficulty and reduce the precision of the writing, aligning the vocabulary with a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complexity frequently result in grammatical errors. Examples of inaccurate structures include 'students who all are demanding to learn' and 'students who want to acquire about other subjects'. There are issues with verb tense and voice, such as 'It is widely been observed', and missing prepositions or incorrect verb complementation like 'learn same subjects routinely'. Frequent errors in grammar and punctuation are present, though they do not completely impede communication. Because of these persistent grammatical inaccuracies and the incomplete final sentence, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
