Student answer (Band 5.5)

Few university students want to learn regarding other subjects also instead of their main subjects while others assume it is more essential to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification. I will discuss both views in the next paragraphs.

To begun with, if students will take addition subjects to learn so it will be very good for them because they can get knowledge about distinct languages which will be fruitful their future. For example, some university students want to take french classes which will improve their skills and will get information regarding one more language so it will help them for their future studies. Furthermore, if students have knowledge about other subjects so they can easily communicate with other individuals. To clarify this, when students will go abroad for their further study so they will feel comfortable because they know their language too much and get job very easily.

On the other hand, few people think they should pay attention to their main subject because if they show more interest to another subjects so they will not get good marks from their main subjects and also can fail from those subjects Moreover, it is also wastage of time as well as money so they should focus on their courses because they can get degree from those subject and if they have good grades from their main subjects they can get job in particular field.

In conclusion, every subject plays an essential role in students life because they will get different knowledge from every subject but it is advisable to say that, learners should take other subjects also but they should pay more attention to their main subjects.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on whether university students should study other subjects or focus entirely on their main qualification, and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is limited and sometimes repetitive. For instance, the discussion on learning languages like French is rather superficial and lacks deeper elaboration. The ideas are relevant but tend to over-generalize without fully exploring the underlying implications of broad education versus specialization. While the position is clear throughout, the support remains somewhat basic, placing this response comfortably at Band 6.0 according to the task response descriptors where relevant ideas are presented but remain under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing each viewpoint, and a distinct concluding sentence. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical. The writer relies heavily on basic transitional phrases such as 'To begun with', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand'. Additionally, referencing and linking clauses sometimes create awkward phrasing, as seen in 'if students will take addition subjects to learn so it will be very good for them'. Paragraph transitions lack smooth progression, resulting in a somewhat mechanical flow that matches the Band 5.5 to 6.0 profile, earning a Band 6.0 overall.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating main ideas related to university studies, grades, and future employment. Less common vocabulary is attempted, such as 'fruitful', 'communication', and 'specialization', but word choice and collocation are often inaccurate. For example, the phrase 'fruitful their future' contains a grammatical and collocational error, and 'wastage of time' is somewhat basic. Spelling is generally acceptable, but noticeable errors like 'To begun with' (instead of To begin with) and 'another subjects' (instead of other subjects) indicate limitations in lexical control, placing the response at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures with conditional clauses and relative pronouns. However, these attempts are frequently faulty. Examples include 'if students will take addition subjects to learn so it will be very good for them' (incorrect use of future tense in conditional clauses and redundant linking) and 'can fail from those subjects'. Errors in grammar, tense agreement, and prepositions are frequent throughout the text, although they rarely impede overall communication. Because complex structures are inaccurate and simple sentences dominate the error-free output, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
