Student answer (Band 6.0)

Several university students want to learn about additional subjects other than their main subjects while others argue that it is more necessary to devote all their time and attention to studying for a particular qualification. Additional subjects help to improve our inner skills, it leads to personal development but sometimes giving all attention to only one subject declines other career opportunities. I believe that learning all subjects available for knowledge purposes.

Some students want to learn additional subjects for their personal growth and to enhance their skills. It enables students to develop better knowledge all around the world. For example, medical students learn practical skills in their university lectures but at that time also are required communication skills. It helps during dealing with their patients and co-workers. Due to these skills they are able to develop a brighter career future.

Sometimes other students concentrate only on one particular subject owing to impact on their critical thinking, problem solving skills and a shorter career path. Many times their cognitive behavior can also change because they pay attention only to their qualification. For example, if students spend their all time in their task but are not familiar with skills such as leadership, teamwork and time management, they can not move upward in their career.

In my opinion, students can learn a particular subject as well as additional subjects depending upon their workload, as a result enhance their cognitive behaviour. This approach would allow them to develop specialist expertise without missing the benefits of a broader education.

In conclusion, for enhancement of inner skills and personal growth we should learn and pay attention to one subject for a qualification as well as additional subjects.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on whether to study additional subjects or focus solely on a main qualification, and it includes the writer's opinion. The introduction outlines the two perspectives, and body paragraphs attempt to develop points regarding personal growth, career opportunities, and practical skills such as communication and teamwork. However, the development is somewhat limited and repetitive, especially in the conclusion and final paragraphs. The position is stated, but the ideas tend to blur between the benefits of broader education and the drawbacks of narrow focus. It fits best at Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is divided into five paragraphs, including a clear introduction and conclusion. Ideas are arranged generally in a logical sequence, moving from the views on additional subjects to the contrasting view of focusing on one subject, followed by the writer's opinion. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally faulty or mechanical, as seen in phrases like 'For example, medical students learn practical skills in their university lectures but at that time also are required communication skills.' Referencing is sometimes unclear, and transitions between sentences can feel abrupt, placing this criterion at Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'personal development', 'cognitive behavior', 'specialist expertise', and 'career opportunities'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'inner skills' instead of 'soft skills' or 'interpersonal skills', and 'brighter career future'. Spelling is generally accurate, but the limitations in precision and natural control keep the lexical score at a Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. For instance, conditional and participial constructions are attempted, such as 'if students spend their all time in their task but are not familiar with skills... they can not move upward'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including missing articles ('spend their all time'), awkward prepositional use ('due to these skills they are able'), and tense or verb-form slips ('are required communication skills'). These errors do not seriously impede communication, supporting a Band 6.
