Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is severely under-length, containing only 125 words against the required minimum of 250 words. As a direct result of this, the student is unable to fully address all parts of the task, specifically failing to discuss the second view in detail, provide a concluding opinion, or properly develop their ideas. While the introduction attempts to frame the discussion regarding university students learning alternative subjects versus focusing exclusively on their main qualifications, the text breaks off mid-argument in the second body paragraph. Due to the incomplete nature of the response and failure to meet the word count requirement, Task Achievement cannot exceed a Band 4.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The student attempts to structure the essay using standard cohesive devices such as 'To commence with' and 'While'. However, because the text stops abruptly at 125 words, the overall organisation is incomplete, preventing a full evaluation of logical progression across a complete essay structure. Paragraphing is initiated properly with an introduction and a first body paragraph, but the lack of a second body paragraph and a conclusion disrupts the macro-coherence of the piece. Referencing is generally clear within the limited text produced, but due to the fragmentary nature of the response, Coherence and Cohesion is restricted to Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common and academic lexical items such as 'indepspensable', 'curricular disiplines', and 'quetessential'. However, the vocabulary is marred by frequent spelling errors, including 'indepspensable' instead of 'indispensable', 'disiplines' instead of 'disciplines', 'assret' instead of 'assert', 'quetessential' instead of 'quintessential', and 'emplymentin' instead of 'employment in'. These noticeable errors cause some difficulty for the reader, placing the lexical performance solidly at Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an attempt at complex sentence structures, such as in the opening sentence ('In today's rapidly evolving world...'). However, grammatical accuracy is low due to frequent errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('as it equipped' instead of 'as it equips'), incorrect preposition use, and awkward phrasings. Furthermore, there are punctuation errors and run-on tendencies. While some simple structures are accurate, the frequency of errors in complex attempts and structural control limits the grammatical score to Band 5.0.
