Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt by discussing the benefits of learning other subjects alongside focusing strictly on one's main qualification, and it presents a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, the argument regarding studying other subjects mentions gaining general knowledge and gives an emergency medical example, but these points are underdeveloped and lack broader academic extension. Furthermore, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement at 245 words, which negatively impacts the task achievement score. Band descriptors for Band 5 are reflected here because the ideas are limited and under-developed, and the length requirement was not met.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into identifiable paragraphs representing an introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. However, logical progression is hindered by poor paragraphing choices and mechanical cohesive devices. For instance, the second body paragraph awkwardly groups the introduction of independence with an example about nursing. Furthermore, referencing is frequently unclear due to pronoun confusion, such as in the phrase 'it makes its easy for the studenst to understand more about his qualification and as well become perfect in it as well'. Cohesive devices are used repetitively or inaccurately, which disrupts the flow and places this response at Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical resource is limited and heavily impacted by basic spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'versatile', 'independence', and 'accountability', but frequent inaccuracies obscure meaning or show poor collocation, such as 'fior few studnets is better', 'culturall life', 'thought how to give an injection' (taught), and 'Nurisng'. Vocabulary is often repetitive, relying heavily on terms like 'qualification', 'study', and 'subject'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to express basic ideas, the density of errors keeps the score at Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical accuracy is very low. There are frequent systemic errors in subject-verb agreement ('universities students wants'), articles ('added to their own field'), prepositions ('added to', 'to focusing on'), and word forms. Punctuation is also poorly handled, featuring unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. Complex sentences are frequently faulty, causing strain for the reader, as seen in the convoluted final sentence. Because errors are persistent and affect basic sentence structures, the response aligns with Band 4 in this category.
