Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on whether students should learn additional subjects or focus solely on their main qualifications, and the writer provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as mentioning physical health, technology habits, and academic pressures. However, some ideas are underdeveloped or lack depth, and the discussion tends to drift into minor details like specific activities (singing, dancing, swimming) rather than fully exploring the broader educational implications of the two perspectives. The position is maintained throughout, but the depth of argument places this response firmly at the Band 5.5 to 6.0 level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into four paragraphs, showing an attempt at a logical structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, paragraphing and referencing are sometimes faulty and mechanical. For example, the transition phrases like 'This paragraph will discuss about...' and 'On the other hand, group of people thinks...' are overly formulaic and clumsy. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is frequently disrupted by abrupt shifts and unclear referencing, such as 'Such intresting subjects' without clear antecedents. Overall cohesion lacks smoothness, leading to a score in the lower band range.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary to attempt the task, including words like 'curriculum', 'technology', and 'qualification'. However, there are numerous noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation throughout the text, such as 'curiculum', 'subbjects', 'mathemetics', 'plathora', 'gudgets', 'intresting', and 'exectra'. These errors and limited control over less common lexical items cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty. There are persistent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as missing articles, incorrect prepositions, subject-verb agreement issues, and tense errors ('This modern youth experiencing...', 'addition of sports subjects in circular is helps...', 'every student are capable...', 'Universities have provide...'). Punctuation and capitalization errors are also common, notably missing spaces after periods. These frequent errors occasionally cause confusion, though meaning can generally still be deciphered.
