Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The student attempts to address both views regarding whether university students should study other subjects alongside their main course or focus entirely on their qualification, and a personal position is hinted at. However, the response is severely underdeveloped and incomplete, ending abruptly in the final conclusion ("To conclude, after analyzing the f"). Furthermore, the word count of 228 words falls short of the mandatory 250-word minimum, incurring a strict penalty under IELTS rules. Ideas regarding the benefits of external subjects, such as gaining life experience in physics, agriculture, or cooking, are introduced but lack proper extension or support. Due to the truncated structure and failure to meet the minimum length requirement, the task response is heavily compromised, resulting in a low band score.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic organizational structure, attempting an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a truncated conclusion. However, the logical progression is significantly hindered by the incomplete ending. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and repetitively, such as "To commence with", "First and the foremost reason", and "On the other hand". Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak due to frequent run-on sentences and a lack of clear referencing. For instance, phrases like "support former nation" demonstrate confusion in cohesive linking and logical flow. Overall, the structural flaws prevent the response from achieving a higher coherence score.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The lexical resource is basic and limited, constraining the student's ability to communicate complex ideas effectively. There are frequent word choice and collocation errors, such as "learned about some other subjects" instead of learning, "former nation" instead of former view, and "vehementaly contend" instead of vehemently contend. Spelling errors are also present, including "exctra", "oppertunities", and "managment". While the student attempts some less common vocabulary like "vehementally", inaccuracies in form and usage impede the overall precision of the text. To improve, the student needs to focus on accurate word forms, spelling, and expanding their repertoire of academic collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex clauses. Grammatical accuracy is low, with persistent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and word forms. Examples include "some university student have to learned", "student learned about other subjects has more experience", and "student may do better by giving all attention and time to studying for qualification". Punctuation is also problematic, with missing periods and stray commas (e.g., "On the other hand ,"). Because errors are frequent across most sentences and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, the grammar profile aligns strictly with band 4.5 descriptors.
