Student answer (Band 5.5)
Over recent years, addition to main subject has become a hotly debate issue in society. This matter is particularly significant due to its impact on university students, influencing both individuals and communities. While some people argue that it is more crucial to give all their time and focus to studying for a qualification. I firmly believe that studying multiple subjects play a main role in the perspective of students life. In this essay, I will present the reasons supporting my viewpoint and address potential counterarguments.
Some people believe that concentration exclusively on one major subject is very important because its develop in-depth knowledge in one particular subject and help students to improve their academic performance. For instance, a student who are master in a particular subject may have great chance to increase employability and enhance career perspective. Although, this viewpoint may seem valid to some extent, I believe it overlooks several key aspects. Another reason why people hold this belief is due to a student devote their time and attention to main subject without any distraction. For example, some students may focus on one subject properly which may improve their academic performance.
Nevertheless, these arguments are not entirely convincing when weighed against the boarder implications.
One of the main reason I support is that students should learn about multiple subjects because it broaden their perspective and horizons. This is evident from students gain exposure to different fields and learn about wide range of skills.
Various studies and real-life example have shown that learn about multiple subjects often leads to explore other academic discipline. For instance, studying multiple subjects may help a student to learn about different viewpoints and practical skills which enhance their mental and learning ability.
Another compelling reason why I believe learning multiple subjects is beneficial due to many high post career opportunities are available for these students. This can be seen in situations where successful and popular organizations want to hire intelligent and having diverse knowledge employee. For example, a student with different practical skills may have more knowledge and broaden horizon which may help to expand their career perspective.
Therefore, it is clear that my opinion is well-founded and supported by both evidence and reasoning.
In conclusion, I believe that studying multiple subjects clearly supports intellectual ability, career perspective and expand diverse knowledge. Primarily, due to broaden one horizons.
Moving forward, it is essential to recognize the advantage of this viewpoint and apply it in ways that foster positive outcomes for both individuals and society as a whole.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on whether university students should learn multiple subjects or focus exclusively on their main qualification, and a clear personal position is presented. Ideas are generally extended and supported, such as discussing employability versus broadened horizons. However, some of the supporting arguments tend to over-generalise or become slightly repetitive, particularly in the body paragraphs. Phrases like 'study multiple subjects play a main role' indicate an attempt to develop the topic, but greater depth and more precise real-world examples would elevate the content. Overall, the task is adequately fulfilled, aligning with a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear attempts at paragraphing and structuring an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical. For instance, sentences like 'Nevertheless, these arguments are not entirely convincing when weighed against the boarder implications' stand as isolated single-sentence paragraphs, disrupting the logical flow. Additionally, cohesive devices are sometimes misused or repetitive (e.g., excessive use of 'another reason why...'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, and logical progression between sentences within paragraphs requires tighter control. This places the performance firmly at a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempts less common items such as 'employability', 'academic discipline', and 'diverse knowledge'. However, there are numerous word-choice and collocation errors that detract from precision, such as 'hotly debate issue' instead of 'hotly debated issue', 'boarder' instead of 'broader', and 'high post career opportunities'. Spelling and morphological inaccuracies occur throughout the text (e.g., 'learn about' used where gerunds like 'learning about' or nouns like 'learning' are required). While communication is not severely impeded, these frequent lexical errors restrict the score to a Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure. However, there are persistent grammatical errors throughout the response, particularly involving subject-verb agreement, verb forms, and relative clauses. Examples include 'studying multiple subjects play' (should be 'plays'), 'a student who are master' (should be 'is a master'), and 'have shown that learn about' (should be 'learning about'). Punctuation errors also occur, such as a full stop splitting a dependent clause: 'focusing to studying for a qualification. I firmly believe...'. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause minor difficulty for the reader, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
