Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. Others believe it is more important to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification. Discuss both these views and give your opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

A plethora of student contend that they are willing to learn other subjects apart from the subjects that they learn in university, whereas others beleive they should focus on their studying for qualification. So, in the forthcoming paragraphs, i have discudssed both the views and included my opinion at the end.

On the one hand, the first and foremost reason is that in this contemporary era except some jobs, each and every employment need a basic requirement in their employee is the skill based knowledge and various type of skills such as critical thinking and problem sloving. Apart from university education, a practical knowledge is required in a pupil or in a graduate because in each and every field sometimes less qualifction grade is acceptable but unskilled employee is not acceptable. For instance, in nursing it is important to learn about how to do patient care, communication with them and how to give anasthesia. Consequently, one can acheive a good reliability on own not on other for skills and can build a strong foundation.

On the other hand, student should follow the basic and complex therotical knowledge because it is important for their degree assesment. Withoput theoritical knowledge they could not pass the exam and are not able to achieve their degree. People cannot acheive their abition and cannot access a good carrer in their life because of not having a degree or having low grades in exams. They cannot good go with their practical skills in their examination and in their work place. Consequently, without degree or with a low grade degree individuals employment opportunities remain to the limited area or only accessible to a constrained type of job.

To conclude, being good at skills apart from qualification is good but geeting qualifed by university and called as a graduate is also important. in my opinion, an individual should remain on both boats of degree and of skill development. individual would suffice the need of themselves as well as of an employer that he\she get a sufficient employment offortunioty and better future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on whether students should learn other subjects or focus solely on qualifications, and it provides a clear opinion at the end. Ideas are extended with relevant examples, such as mentioning specific nursing skills like patient care and administering anesthesia. However, there is a tendency to over-generalize in places and some arguments repeat similar points regarding practical skills versus academic grades. The position is maintained throughout the essay. When evaluated against the descriptors, the response meets the requirements for a Band 6.0 because it addresses all parts of the task and presents relevant ideas, though some development lacks precision.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is divided into four paragraphs with a recognizable logical progression. Cohesive devices are used to signal shifts between paragraphs, such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition into the conclusion includes awkward phrasing ('being good at skills apart from qualification is good but geeting qualifed'), and paragraphing, although present, contains mechanical errors and conversational meta-language in the introduction ('So, in the forthcoming paragraphs, i have discudssed both the views'). Overall, the arrangement is coherent, earning a solid Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for the task, including items like 'plethora', 'contemporary era', and 'foundation'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'contend' instead of 'contends', 'beleive', 'sloving', 'qualifction', 'therotical', 'assesment', 'Withoput', 'acheive', 'abition', 'carrer', and 'geeting'. Despite these inaccuracies, communication is rarely impeded because the intended meaning remains clear to the reader. This performance aligns with the Band 5.5 to 6.0 descriptors, where an adequate range is shown but frequent spelling errors prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure. Examples include conditional and relative clauses like 'each and every employment need a basic requirement in their employee is the skill based knowledge'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions, such as 'employment need', 'a practical knowledge', 'communication with them', and 'individuals employment opportunities remain to the limited area'. Punctuation errors are also present, such as uncapitalized pronouns ('i') and awkward punctuation. These errors occur regularly, though they rarely impede communication, placing the grammar firmly at a Band 5.5.
