Student answer (Band 6.0)
Universities nowadays are revolutionising academic programs to extends that favours the students to opt for external subjects of choice for their personal academic growth. These are the additional subjects that are being taught tot the students with their main subjects. The discussion is on the students point of view of whether this initiative is a win or a loss.
On the first hand, going for additional subjects gives students a broader range of knowledge, which in terms of Intellectuality are beneficial and give students a more confidential tone while addressing these topics apart from main subjects. Also to mention, these additional subjects consists of psychology, human development, etc redefines student's confidence and moral, while also providing them a better position in the society.
on the other hand, Students sticking to their main subjects; while not entertaining additional subjects, often aces their academics and achieves higher proficiency over their subjects. such students are usually career oriented and are much focused on their paths. Students who chooses main subjects are rational thinkers, who provides their full capacity to main subjects in order for them to achieve better grades.
While expressing my thoughts, I would side with students who wants to pursue additional subjects, solely because with additional subjects, student achieves better understanding of the academic and social world, as well as are relatively more familiar with social life. As an example, students studying psychology with their core subjects would be better at reading intentions and decisions of the people they will meet in their university, their workplace, or any other phase of life.
In conclusion, I would say that opting for additional subjects gives students intellectuality and confidence, as well as boost their moral to achieve and pursue the best options in their life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on whether students should learn external subjects or focus entirely on their main qualifications, and a clear personal position is presented and maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported, such as when the student provides the example of studying psychology to understand human behavior and intentions better in social and professional settings. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise or under-develop certain points, such as the claims about students who stick exclusively to their main subjects being rational thinkers. The main positions are sufficiently explained and supported with relevant reasoning, aligning well with the expectations of a Band 6.5 or 7.0 for Task Achievement. Overall, the prompt requirements are adequately met.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay is coherent overall with a clear logical progression from the introduction, through the two body paragraphs exploring opposing views, to the personal opinion and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct topics, such as the separation of arguments for additional subjects versus sticking to core subjects. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in awkward transitions like 'On the first hand' and 'on the other hand'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the phrase 'which in terms of Intellectuality are beneficial', where the antecedent is ambiguous. While the underlying structure is sound, these recurring mechanical cohesive issues and awkward transitional phrases keep the score at Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'revolutionising academic programs', 'career oriented', and 'rational thinkers'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices throughout the text, including 'extends that favours', 'tot the students', 'additional subjects consists of', and 'boost their moral' (instead of morale). Spelling and word-formation errors, such as 'confidential' instead of 'confident' and 'intellectuality' instead of 'intellectual growth', occasionally impede precision. Because the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main message despite these frequent slips, the response comfortably earns a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition with subordinate clauses and participial phrases, as in 'While expressing my thoughts, I would side with students who wants to pursue additional subjects...'. However, grammatical errors are frequent and persist throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('subjects consists of', 'students who wants', 'who provides'), incorrect verb forms ('Students who chooses'), and punctuation or capitalization mistakes (lowercase 'on the other hand'). Although these errors do not completely impede communication, they disrupt the flow and prevent the essay from achieving a higher band. A score of 5.5 reflects a control that falls between simple and complex structures with noticeable persistent errors.
