Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task partially, attempting to discuss both views regarding university students learning additional subjects versus focusing solely on their main qualifications, and provides a basic personal opinion. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed, relying on repetitive points without much extension or relevant supporting examples. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls short of the minimum word count of 250 words, stopping abruptly at the end.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident through basic transitional markers such as 'To commence with', 'Moving further', and 'In conclusion', attempting to structure the essay into paragraphs. However, overall progression is lacking, and the paragraphing is disrupted by abrupt endings, particularly the unfinished final sentence. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or overly mechanical, and referencing is occasionally unclear, which restricts the flow of ideas between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for communicating basic ideas, featuring frequent errors in word choice, word form, and spelling. Examples include 'advance study' instead of 'advanced study', 'addition data' for 'additional data', and 'extra presser' instead of 'extra pressure'. These noticeable errors and a heavy reliance on basic, repetitive terms mean the lexical range is constrained and occasionally causes difficulty for the reader in grasping precise meanings.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex ones. Frequent grammatical errors occur across verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'everyone need', 'students are teach', 'it can be help', and 'if students are start'. These frequent errors require the reader to decode the intended meaning, though basic communication is maintained in places.
