Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response responds to the task only minimally and fails to meet the word count requirement, containing only 238 words, which falls short of the 250-word minimum. (Note that 22 words copied from the task prompt were not counted). While the student attempts to discuss both views and gives an opinion, the ideas are very limited and under-developed. For example, the arguments regarding learning other subjects or focusing solely on main subjects are vague, repetitive, and lack sufficient explanation or relevant examples. The position is stated in the introduction and conclusion, but the overall development is restricted due to the brevity and lack of specific supporting evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation evident in the essay, with clear attempts at paragraphing and basic structural signposts such as 'To being with' and 'In contrast'. However, there is no clear overall progression across the text as a whole. Cohesive devices are used rather mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, such as 'To being with'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, and the mechanical transitions do not effectively guide the reader through a logical argument. Paragraphing is present to separate different viewpoints, but the internal flow within paragraphs is disrupted by repetitive phrasing and disjointed sentence connections.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, employing a limited range that strains the reader's understanding at times. There are frequent spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'Maney', 'peolpe', 'brings', 'thing', 'benefites', 'univarsity', 'essy', 'side', 'subjests', 'ofthen', 'daliy', 'economay', 'repord', 'stetas', 'achive', 'help', 'inhabitants', 'earth', 'responcibal', 'socitey', 'inbividuals', 'sturdy', 'theri', 'cartain', and 'reguletion'. These lexical errors show a very restricted vocabulary control and impede communication in several places, keeping the response at a low level for this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, relying heavily on simple sentence forms with frequent attempts at complex structures that are faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that cause difficulty for the reader and distort meaning, such as missing articles, incorrect verb forms, and poor agreement (e.g., 'although univarsity subjects has a few drawbacks. it benefites', 'supporters of some students want to learn... they ofthen say', 'sturdy conducted by...', and the incomplete final sentence 'If effcetive reguletion are implemented and students act responsibly.'). Punctuation errors, such as misplaced full stops within sentences, further disrupt the grammatical integrity of the response.
