Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views on studying extra subjects and provides a personal opinion in the final paragraph. However, the ideas remain quite limited and under-developed, lacking detailed supporting examples or extended explanation. Furthermore, the response falls short of the minimum word count requirement, containing only 211 words instead of the required 250 words, which restricts the depth of the overall discussion. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to fully expand on their arguments with specific examples and ensure the full word count is met.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organization present with transitional markers like "Firstly," "Secondly," and "Finally" attempting to structure the response. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and cohesive devices are frequently inaccurate or used repetitively. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph combines multiple distinct concepts—such as time management, personal opinions, and future benefits—into a single dense block of text, making the logical flow difficult to follow. Improving logical sequencing and using a wider range of accurate cohesive devices would help lift the essay's structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical resource is limited but minimally adequate for conveying basic meaning. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, but noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling—such as "varity" instead of variety, "prephere" instead of prefer, and "fucosing" instead of focusing—occur throughout the text. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict the range of vocabulary shown. To improve, the writer should focus on expanding their working vocabulary and checking the correct spelling and collocations of everyday academic terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences or faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues like "some of student think", article misuse, incorrect prepositions such as "concentrate in there main subject", and poor punctuation. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and show a lack of control over basic and complex grammatical forms. Practicing basic sentence construction, punctuation, and tense consistency will be essential for future progress.
