Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task partially, discussing both views and giving a position, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the introduction outlines the two perspectives, and body paragraphs attempt to explore the benefits of additional subjects and main subjects respectively, but both arguments trail off abruptly without full extension or clear examples, such as the incomplete sentence regarding doctors and hospital management. Furthermore, the response is incomplete in length, as it contains only 229 words, thus failing to meet the minimum requirement of 250 words. To reach a higher band, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is fulfilled and develop each main idea fully with relevant explanations and completed examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some organisation with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and an abrupt attempt at a conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are sometimes repetitive, inaccurate, or inadequate, such as the excessive use of 'consequently' and 'considerably' to link sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final conclusion is truncated, stopping abruptly at 'To'. To improve, the writer needs to ensure logical links are used naturally and varied effectively, while also completing all structural components of the essay, including a fully formed concluding paragraph that summarises the main points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas related to university education. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'vairity', 'extra criculm', 'concenrating', 'submerting', 'garthering', 'muliple', 'oppurtunity', and 'jods'. These inaccuracies stem from attempts to use less common vocabulary without sufficient mastery of spelling and word forms. To progress to a higher level, the student must expand their active vocabulary, pay closer attention to standard spelling conventions, and ensure that word choices accurately reflect the intended meaning in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors that can cause difficulty for the reader, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'The number of university student want', missing articles such as 'in this economy' and 'with extra set of skill', and incorrect verb forms like 'can leads toward' and 'is tend to increase'. Punctuation is also problematic, with sentences running on or trailing off incomplete. To achieve a higher band, the writer must use a wider variety of complex grammatical structures accurately and eliminate frequent errors in agreement, articles, and verb tenses.
