Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies both viewpoints in the opening and gives a clear preference for concentrating on the qualification. However, the discussion is only minimally developed: the first body paragraph repeats that students like other subjects and offers a brief, unclear reference to China, without explaining the benefits or giving a specific example. The second viewpoint is introduced with “Secondly,” but the sentence is unfinished, so it is not actually discussed. The opinion is also supported only by the vague claim that people who do not focus “are fail.” The response contains 100 words, which is 150 words below the required minimum; this leaves the task substantially incomplete. Develop both views with reasons and examples, then explain why your position is stronger.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the introduction presents the two views, and “Firstly” and “Secondly” signal body points. This gives the reader some indication of the intended structure. However, progression is very limited because the first body paragraph repeats the same idea rather than extending it, and the second paragraph stops after “some people believe that it is.” As a result, the essay has no completed discussion or conclusion. Connections between ideas are also unclear in places, such as “Thus, this type of student are like other subject,” which does not show a logical result. Use complete paragraphs, make each one develop a distinct point, and connect claims to explanations or examples rather than relying on sequencing words alone.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a small set of relevant words and phrases, including “subjects,” “studying,” “qualification,” and “focus,” so the general topic can be recognised. However, vocabulary is repetitive and often imprecise: “other subject” and “really god” recur, while “these type people” does not clearly express the intended meaning. Spelling errors such as “thier” and “god” also reduce accuracy and can distract the reader. To improve, use more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling carefully—for example, describe the advantages of studying “additional disciplines” or “broadening one’s knowledge,” and explain how this may support a student’s “career prospects.” Avoid repeating the same basic wording when developing each argument.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response attempts both simple statements and a contrast in the opening, but sentence structures are very limited and errors occur throughout. For example, “It is often argue” has an incorrect verb form, while “some university student want” lacks plural agreement. Other examples include “Chinese student are” and “this type of student are,” where subject–verb agreement is faulty. The sentence “I believe that it is really crucial to all the time to your focus on your studies” is difficult to follow because its grammatical structure is incomplete or misordered. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and a missing space after the full stop before “I believe.” Practise accurate basic sentence patterns before attempting longer ones.
