Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some university students want to learn some other practical subjects instead of just studing theoratical subjects .Some people suppoert this incresing trend, while other are against it.I firmly beleive that exploring more opportunities with some new subjects would be beneficial not for students, but also for the society.

Firstly,by supporting this idea ,encourage our students to learn more.Secondly ,this would help them in future to find out thier favourite subject, where they can make thir carrier.Thirdly, this would assist the students to save their time ,because to understand it at an later stage what subject or field they want to persue would lead them towards wastage of time and also wastage of money.Thats why, it is important to add some other subjects to thier main subjects.

In contrast, many critics are againt this because they thought that the students should give more attention toward main subject to qualify the exam.Secondly, they observe that there is no need to learn extra subject because there will be no need in future .For instance bilogy students have no need to learn physics, chemistry and computer.Thirdly, they firmly beleive that they can attain much more by just focusing on a single subject.

To sum it up ,Only studying single subject or main subjects at a time in the universities depend on the curriculum and on the faculty.Few people are in favour of this idea, whereas some are against it .Both have advantages and disadvantages side by side .I would suggest that by adding some extra subjects will be in our favour because we can explore more opportinities at a time instead of chasing just one path for whole life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear opinion in the introduction, saying that studying additional subjects would benefit students and society, and you include a paragraph presenting reasons in favour as well as a paragraph describing the opposing view. This addresses the main parts of the question. However, the discussion is only partial because several points are asserted rather than explained. For example, you say extra subjects help students find a future career and avoid wasting time and money, but you do not show how this works or give a specific example. The opposing view is also simplified by the claim that biology students have no need to learn physics, chemistry or computing. Develop both perspectives with more balanced, relevant examples and explain how they support your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting additional study, a paragraph presenting the alternative view, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “In contrast,” and “To sum it up” help readers follow the broad progression. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical because several points are introduced through repeated numbered transitions without being linked or developed. The conclusion also shifts to saying the choice depends on “the curriculum and on the faculty,” which is not clearly connected to the earlier argument. Some references, such as “this idea,” are not always precise about which view is meant. Use fewer formulaic transitions and connect each reason to its explanation and example more explicitly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some vocabulary relevant to education and future planning, including “qualification,” “curriculum,” “faculty,” and “opportunities,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make the writing less clear or natural. Examples include “make their career,” “save their time,” “chasing just one path,” and “attain much more”; these expressions do not convey the intended meaning precisely. There are also frequent spelling errors, such as “studing,” “theoratical,” “beleive,” and “opportinities.” Build a more accurate set of phrases for discussing academic choices and careers, and proofread spelling carefully so that errors do not distract from your argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use clauses to explain reasons, as in “because to understand it at an later stage what subject or field they want to persue would lead them towards wastage of time.” However, this structure is difficult to follow, and most sentences rely on simple patterns or lists rather than showing a controlled range. Errors in sentence construction, verb forms, articles, agreement, and punctuation occur throughout. For example, “Firstly, by supporting this idea, encourage our students” lacks a clear subject, while “many critics are against this because they thought” shifts tense inconsistently. Commas and spaces are also often missing around sentence boundaries. Practise building clear subject–verb sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and check each sentence for a complete grammatical structure.
