Student answer (Band 6.0)
NOWADAYS, SOME UNIVERSITY STUDENTS WANT TI LEARN ADDITIONAL SUBJECTS WITH THEIR MAIN SUBJECTS, WHILE OTHERS BELIEVE THAT THEY SHOULD FOCUS MORE ON THEIR QUALIFICATION. ALTHOUGH, LEARNING DIFFERENT SUBJECTS PROVIDE MORE BENEFITS, I BELIEVE THAT STUDENTS SHOULD GIVE MORE ATTENTION TO MAIN SUBJECTS, AND KEEPING SOME TIME FOR EXTRA ACTIVITIES.
SOME STUDENTS HAVE AN OPINION THAT LEARNING DIFFERENT SUBJECTS HELP THEM TO GATHER WIDE RANGE OF KNOWLEDGE AND LEARN DIFFERENT SKILLS. NOWADAYS, MANY JOBS REQUIRE
EXTRA KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS APART FROM MAIN DEGREE, AND IT ALSO HELPS THEM TO SECURE A GOOD JOB. FOR EXAMPLE, A COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENT WHO LEARNS BUSINESS MANAGEMENT CAN UNDERSTAND HOW TO DEVELOPE WEBSITES FOR COMPANIES AND HOW TO MANAGE ONLINE BUSINESS. IN ADDITION, LEARNING SUBJECTS SUCH AS COMMUNICATION AND FOREIGN LANGUAGES CAN IMPROVE STUDNET'S CONFIDENCE AND HELP THEM WORK PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS.
HOWEVER, SOME PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT STUDENTS SHOULD FOCUS MORE ON THIER MAIN SUBJECTS WHICH ARE RELATED TO THEIR QUALIFICATION. THE MAIN REASON IS THATUNIVERSITY COURSES OFTEN REQUIRE A MAXIMUM TIME AND EFFORTS. IF STUDENTS SPEND TOO MUCH TIME ON LEARNING OTHER SUBJECTS, THEY MAY FEEL DIFFICULTIES TO COMPLETE THEIR ASSIGNMENTS AND PREPARE FOR EXAMINATIONS. FOR INSTANCE, A COMPUTER SCIENECE STUDENTS NEED TO PRACTICE PROGRAMMING AND LEARN TECHNICAL CONCEPTS TO GET A GOOD RESULT. THEREFORE, FOCUS ON MAIN SUBJECTS IS IMPORTANT TO GAIN KNOWLEDGE WHICH HELP THEM IN THEIR FUTURE CAREERS.
TO CONCLUDE, LEARNING EXTRA SUBJECTS IS IMPORTANT BECASE IT HELPS STUDENTS IN THEIR FUTURE TO SECURE GOOD CAREERS, BUT FOCUS ON MAIN SUBJECTS IS ALSO NECESSARY. STUDENTS SHOULD NEED PROPER MANAGEMENT TO STUDY ADDITIONAL SUBJECTS IN A WAY WHICH CAN NOT AFFECT THEIR MAIN SUBJECTS AND RESULT.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and give a clear position: you recognise the benefits of learning additional subjects, but argue that students should prioritise their main qualification while making time for other learning. The examples about a computer science student studying business and the demands of programming help make the discussion relevant. This meets the task well, though the two sides are not developed equally: the benefits of extra subjects are explained through several points, while the case for prioritising a qualification relies mainly on workload and exam preparation. The conclusion restates your position but could explain more precisely how students should balance the two. Developing that balance and extending each example would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The progression from the benefits of broader study to the demands of a main course is easy to follow, and signposts such as “For example,” “However,” and “To conclude” help guide the reader. Some connections are mechanical or unclear, however. The opening “Although” clause is not smoothly connected to the main claim, and “In addition” introduces another benefit without clearly linking it to the previous example. The final paragraph repeats both sides rather than drawing them together into a specific recommendation. Use referencing and transitions more precisely, and make the relationship between each supporting point and the paragraph’s main idea explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “qualification,” “assignments,” “examinations,” “technical concepts,” and “different backgrounds.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and phrases such as “secure a good job” show an attempt to use topic-appropriate language. However, errors in spelling, word form, and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: examples include “develope,” “studnet’s,” “thier,” and “focus on main subjects.” Some expressions are also imprecise, such as “gather wide range of knowledge” and “students should need proper management.” Aim to learn common academic collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise phrasing would make your ideas clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “subjects which are related to their qualification” and conditional structures such as “If students spend too much time… they may…”. This gives the essay some variety, and the overall meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “learning different subjects provide” needs subject–verb agreement, while “a computer science students need” mixes singular and plural forms. The opening “Although” clause is also not correctly integrated, and “students should need” is an awkward modal construction. Review agreement and article use, and edit each sentence for a complete, well-connected structure. Greater accuracy in these areas would strengthen your control.
