Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is argued that some undergraduade students want to learn about different subjects in extra to their course subject, while others say that giving more attention and all time to thier main course subjects.
On the one hand, university students can learn other subjects in addition to their main courses. This is to say that they can accure extra knowledge besides their main subjects. Furthermore, they can get help from those subjects in future. For instance, I am a engineering student but I want to be an entrepeneur. so, I read business subjects as extra besides my main subjects.
On the other hand, giving time to learn about other subjects can be unhelpfull. This is because, study other subjects instead of giving more time and attention to study their main subjects can be cause for fail or low grade number. As a result, it will be a big loss for tham. I believe that students should learn their main subje

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify both views and give a relevant personal example: as an engineering student who hopes to become an entrepreneur, you read business subjects. This helps show why learning beyond a degree can be useful. However, the response addresses the task only partially: the second view is briefly described, and the essay ends mid-sentence at “I believe that students should learn their main subje…”, so your opinion is not completed or clearly explained. The ideas are also under-developed, with no further example or explanation of how extra study might affect grades. The response is 90 words below the required minimum. To strengthen your answer, complete your position and develop both sides with reasons and specific supporting examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic, recognisable structure: an opening statement followed by paragraphs introduced with “On the one hand” and “On the other hand.” These signposts help readers identify the two perspectives, and “For instance” introduces a relevant example. However, progression is limited because each side is discussed only briefly, and the final paragraph stops before the opinion is completed. Some links are mechanical or awkward, such as “This is to say” and “As a result,” which do not create a fully clear relationship between the ideas. Develop each paragraph around a main point, explain it, and then connect it to a specific example. A complete conclusion would also make the overall direction clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “main subjects,” “extra knowledge,” “qualification,” and “low grade.” The example about becoming an entrepreneur also shows an attempt to use topic-specific language. However, the range is limited and several word choices, collocations, and spelling errors make parts of the response less clear. For example, “in extra to their course subject” and “learn their main subjects” are not natural expressions, while “accure,” “undergraduade,” and “entrepreneuer” are misspelled. “Big loss” is also vague in this context. Build a wider set of accurate phrases for discussing academic priorities, such as “broaden their knowledge,” “focus on their degree,” and “academic performance,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex sentence forms, including “This is because…” and “instead of…,” and the basic meaning is generally understandable. However, the range remains limited, and attempts to combine ideas often contain grammatical errors. For example, “while others say that giving more attention and all time to their main course subjects” is an incomplete clause, and “can be cause for fail” has an incorrect verb pattern. In “I am a engineering student,” the article is incorrect; “I am an engineering student” is needed. The final sentence is also unfinished, which prevents the reader from understanding your intended conclusion. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and review articles, verb patterns, and sentence boundaries.
