Student answer (Band 6.0)

Certain university level students keen to learn about other subjects with their main subjects while others think it is more crucial to give all their time and focus to study a professsional qualification. This essay will discuss both perspectives before explaining why i support the latter view.

Some students believe that studying other subjects in addition to their main subjects will increase chances of getting a higher score in their final exams. These students consider the other subjects such as Islamiat, History easier than their main subjects therefore, they try to focus on these subjects as well to gain better outcomes. They also think that these subjects have similar importance as the main subjects and they play an important role in improving our knowledge. For instance, Geopraphy is often included in other subjects and this is considered as vital in their perspectives as this give a lot of information about the world geography.

Others give more time and attention for studying a certain qualification to get the practical knowlegde that ultimately helps in their future jobs or businesses. They contend that students should learn the material in their university years which they can directly implement in the real world. For example, in present day students are more aware of the importance of time as a result, they don't want to waste their hours in learning the subjects that can increase their knowledge whereas, can't be helpful in their professional life.

I strongly believe that additional subjects can help to understand the world better but pursuing a professional qualification will save your time and maximize your skills in your desired career. For example, a professional qualification such as ACCA leads the student to gain hands on experience that will be extremely helpful in their future employment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and gives a clear opinion: the introduction says you support focusing on the qualification, and the conclusion restates this position. Relevant examples, including Geography and the ACCA qualification, help illustrate the discussion. However, the two sides are not developed equally clearly. The first paragraph suggests that additional subjects can improve exam results and general knowledge, but the link between these benefits and the question of how students should allocate their time could be explained more fully. The argument for concentrating on a qualification is clearer, though the claim that other subjects cannot help professionally is broad and needs qualification or support. Develop each main reason with a more specific explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposting such as “Some students believe,” “Others,” and “I strongly believe” makes the structure apparent. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the clearer progression associated with a stronger performance. However, links within sentences are occasionally awkward or mechanical. For example, “therefore” and “also” connect points, but the relationship between studying easier subjects and gaining a higher score is not fully explained. The final example is separated from the conclusion’s main claim rather than integrated smoothly. Use clearer cause-and-effect links and connect each example explicitly to the paragraph’s central argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “practical knowledge,” “professional life,” “qualification,” and “hands-on experience.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some attempts at more specific language suit an academic discussion. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “give all their time and focus to study,” “gain better outcomes,” and “in their perspectives.” Spelling errors, including “professsional,” “Geopraphy,” and “knowlegde,” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and control. Learn common academic collocations and proofread carefully; for example, use “devote time to studying” and “achieve better results” rather than translating phrases word for word.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response includes both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while,” “therefore,” and “that,” as well as a contrast in “although” implied by the final argument. Most sentences remain understandable, which is a strength. Some grammatical errors persist, however. In “they play an important role … as this give,” the verb does not agree with its subject; “as this gives” or “as these subjects give” would be correct. The construction “whereas, can't be helpful” is incomplete and incorrectly punctuated, and “students keen to learn” needs a finite verb such as “are keen.” Capitalisation of “i” and punctuation around longer clauses also need attention. Check sentence completeness, agreement, and clause boundaries during revision.
