Student answer (Band 5.5)

Few acedamic institution sould to learn discipline in mixed to their main subjects .Others think it is more important to give all time concentration to studying for acedamic qualification .In my opinion ,students give priority to their major discipline but also learn other subjects if they have enough time. On the one hand, studying different subjects can provide students with a wide range of knowledge and skills. This can help understand different perspectives and improve their opportunities. Moreover ,learning additional subjects can develop creativity ,communication skills and problem solving abilities. For example,a chemistry students who learns computer skills can use specalized software to analyse laboratory results more effectively. Furthermore, studying other subjects can be useful for both professional and personal development For instance, Oxford university conducted research that students concentration on other subjects are more talented as compare to only focus main discipline. On the other hand, some people argue that student should concentrate on their main subject because obtaining a good qualification require considerable time effort. univeristy usually involve difficult examination practical work and research projects . As an illustration, If students spend too much time studying unrealated subjects ,they find it to manaage their good grade . In addition, chemistry students need to understand laboratory techniques and scientific concepts to become sucessful chemist .If they neglect their major subject , their acedamic performance and future are suffer . In my opnion students give priority to their major subjects and not focus other subjects However, learning additional skills can also advantage and does not negatively effects their main subjects

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a position: students should prioritise their major subject while learning other subjects when time allows. The discussion of broader learning includes relevant benefits such as creativity and communication, supported by the chemistry-and-computer-skills example. You also explain why qualification study demands time, with reference to examinations, practical work and research. However, some points are less fully developed: the claim about an Oxford University study is not explained or substantiated, and the final opinion is brief and somewhat inconsistent with the earlier qualification that students can study other subjects if they have enough time. Clarify this position and develop each example by showing its consequences more explicitly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a concluding opinion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In addition” help readers follow the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes uneven, and the conclusion largely repeats the opening rather than resolving the two views clearly. Some links between claims and examples are abrupt, particularly the move from general benefits to the Oxford research claim. Improve cohesion by grouping related points, explaining how each example supports its claim, and using clear references when returning to the central position. More controlled paragraph development would make the argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “wide range of knowledge,” “professional and personal development,” “qualification,” and “laboratory techniques.” These choices show an effort to discuss education beyond basic terms. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause, as in “acedamic,” “specalized,” “unrealated,” and “sucessful.” Several phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “learn discipline in mixed to their main subjects” and “their future are suffer.” Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common academic collocations, especially for describing subject choices, academic performance, and career outcomes. Aim for precise, natural phrasing rather than adding more difficult words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional clauses (“If students spend too much time…”) and relative clauses (“a chemistry student who learns computer skills…”). This gives the response some structural variety. However, errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction occur across the essay and can make meaning difficult to process. For example, “a chemistry students” has a number mismatch, “qualification require” lacks subject–verb agreement, and “their academic performance and future are suffer” has an incorrect verb pattern. Punctuation and spacing around commas and sentence openings also need attention. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb, then review articles and singular/plural agreement.
