Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, university pupils prefer to study additional subject in their main course, while others believe that concentrating entirely on their degree is more beneficial. This essay will both these view, but i belive that studnets need to gaining knowledge in other field.

On the one hand, learning different subjects can provide students a broader understanding for the world. It aslo help them to develop new skills that may valubale for their future careers. For example, a business pupils learn psychology can help them to deal with international companies with full confidence. As a result, with their potential they secure the deal with international clinet. Furthermore, studying different areas can increase creativity can help them to slove their problem more efficiently. Therefore, learning different subjects can prepare university pupils for a wider ranger of career opportunity.

On the other hand, people admire that students need to devote all their time and attention to main qualifaction. This mainly becuase university courses requires considerably amount of effort , regular practice and detailed research. If these students spend too much time on unrelated studying subjects, they may struggle to complete their assignment and prepare for examination. For example, medical students need to understand complex scientific data before they become doctor. In such case, focusing on their main subjects is essential for achieveing better result and professional exprtise.

In conclusion, although students should priotize their main course with fully focus. From my perespective, developing other skills is beneficial for them because they have free command to choose their career.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both sides of the discussion and state your preference for learning beyond a main subject, so the response covers the task. The first body paragraph gives relevant benefits, including broader understanding, career skills and creativity; the second explains why demanding courses such as medicine require sustained focus. These examples support your main points, but some reasoning is not fully clear or developed: the business example’s link between psychology and securing an international deal is asserted rather than explained, and the conclusion’s claim that students have “free command to choose their career” does not clearly express your intended reason. To strengthen the response, explain each example’s connection to your argument and make your final opinion more precise and consistent.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The progression from benefits of broader study to the demands of a main qualification is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help orient the reader. However, some links between ideas are faulty or mechanical. For instance, “Furthermore, studying different areas can increase creativity can help them…” joins two ideas without a clear grammatical or cohesive link, while “As a result, with their potential…” is difficult to follow. The conclusion also begins with a concession but does not complete the contrast smoothly. Use clearer sentence links and pronouns, and ensure each paragraph develops one connected line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “broader understanding,” “regular practice,” “detailed research,” and “professional expertise,” and you use some variety rather than relying entirely on basic terms. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make meaning less clear. Examples include “university pupils,” “full confidence,” “free command,” and “wider ranger of career opportunity”; several intended expressions are not natural in this context. Spelling errors such as “valubale,” “clinet,” and “qualifaction” also reduce precision. Build a reliable set of topic-specific collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully. More accurate use of familiar vocabulary would improve clarity more than adding ambitious but uncertain expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional reasoning (“If these students spend too much time…”) and a relative clause (“students need to understand complex scientific data before they become doctor”). However, control is uneven, and errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles and verb forms sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “This essay will both these view” is incomplete, “It aslo help them” has an agreement problem, and “studying different areas can increase creativity can help them” lacks a correct connection between clauses. The final paragraph also contains a sentence fragment: “although students should priotize their main course with fully focus.” Practise complete clause structures and check subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence boundaries while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
