Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both views and give a personal opinion, so the response is relevant to the task. You explain that additional skills may help with practical work and job applications, while concentrating on a qualification may lead to stronger grades and employment. However, these points are mostly asserted rather than developed: the examples of learning MS Office and gaining a job in a large organisation are brief, and the benefits of focusing solely on a degree are not explored in detail. Your position is also not fully consistent: you favour extra skills, but the conclusion ends unfinished after “because it can results you to get”. Develop each view with a clearer explanation and complete your final reason to make your response more fully addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Moreover”, “Whereas” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear, and some links are inaccurate or mechanical. For example, “While, others believe” does not form a complete contrast, and “Whereas” begins a paragraph without a clear connection to the preceding example. The conclusion repeats earlier points rather than bringing them together, and its final sentence is incomplete. Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s main point, connect examples directly to explanations, and ensure references such as “he” and “the persons” are clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some vocabulary relevant to education and employment, including “qualifications”, “additional skills”, “career” and “organisation”. This gives you enough language to communicate the main topic, but the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unnatural or unclear. Examples include “a better CV”, “a handsome amount of money”, “results of outstanding marks” and “run his own business” as a general outcome. There are also spelling errors such as “helpfull”, “qualifcation”, “beleive” and “benefitial”, which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise academic phrasing and check spelling carefully; for instance, explain how skills improve employability rather than relying on broad claims about getting a good job.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including a contrast with “Whereas” and a relative clause in “which will help when he applies for a job”. However, control is inconsistent, and faulty sentence construction often makes the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “The people who learn new skills, it can be helpfull” and “a student learn Ms. office”, where clause structure and verb forms are not controlled. Agreement and verb patterns are also problematic in “can leads to job” and “it can results you to get”. Punctuation and sentence boundaries need attention, particularly where a full stop is missing after “qualifications” and where the conclusion ends as a fragment. Practise accurate basic clauses before adding complex structures.
