Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the contemporary era, there is a heated arguement over the issue that some university students want to learn other courses in addition to their main subjects. Others believe it is more important to spend all their time and concentration to studying for a qualification. There is no iota of doubt over this issue that students should learn other courses rather than their main subjects. A majority of society favours it, however other goes opposite to it. This essay would highlight my perspective which will lead to a logical conclusion.

Anaylzing the statement, I see eye to eye with the given aspect for multifarious reasons. First and foremost reason is that the competetion to secure a good job is getting high with the passage of time. Therefore, students should learn other subjects so that they can get a better occupation. Secondly, it would increase the social interaction which in result will boost their confidence. For instance, if science students learn artificial intellgence, they would have numerous opportunities than those students who enrolled only in science subjects.

Probing ahead, those students who give all their time and concentration to studying some subjects just to get a degree would have less opportunities in future. To substantiate, their social interaction would be low as a reusult of which their confidence would be low. In addition, such students would not have updated skills which in turn can create some hurdles to get a better opportunity.

To recapitulate, I reiterate that there are innumerable strong factors supplying that students should learn other subjects in addition to their main subjects and it cannot overlooked either.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You state a clear preference for students learning additional subjects, and you give relevant reasons, including improved job prospects and confidence. The example of science students learning artificial intelligence helps illustrate your position. However, the discussion of the opposing view is brief: you mainly describe disadvantages of focusing only on a qualification rather than explaining why students might reasonably prioritise it, such as limited time or the need for specialist expertise. Several claims also need fuller explanation. The conclusion repeats your position but does not add much synthesis. The response is 248 words, so it falls two words short of the 250-word minimum; the 21 words copied from the prompt are not counted. Develop both views more evenly and support each with a specific explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable essay structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “First and foremost,” “Secondly,” and “To recapitulate” help signal stages in the argument. However, progression is limited because the second body paragraph largely repeats the first paragraph’s claims about confidence and opportunities instead of developing the opposing perspective. Some linking is mechanical, and connections between ideas are not always clear; for example, the move from social interaction to confidence is asserted rather than explained. The introduction also spends several sentences announcing the essay rather than setting up the two views. Organise the body around one view per paragraph, use clear references, and make each supporting point lead logically to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “qualification,” “social interaction,” “updated skills,” and “opportunities,” and you attempt more formal expressions such as “To substantiate.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which can distract the reader. Examples include “the competition … is getting high,” “spend all their time and concentration to studying,” and “innumerable strong factors supplying that.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “arguement,” “Anaylzing,” “competetion,” “intellgence,” and “reusult.” Aim for precise, natural collocations rather than inserting formal-sounding phrases. Proofread spelling carefully and choose vocabulary that expresses the intended relationship clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional example beginning “if science students learn artificial intelligence,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, the range is limited, and complex constructions are often faulty. For example, “it cannot overlooked either” is missing the auxiliary “be,” while “A majority of society favours it, however other goes opposite to it” has problems with sentence connection and subject–verb agreement. In “students should learn other subjects so that they can get a better occupation,” the sentence structure is clear, but the essay relies heavily on similar patterns rather than varying clauses accurately. Practise forming complete passive constructions, checking agreement and articles, and punctuating joined clauses correctly.
