Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. Others believe it is more important to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification. Discuss both these views and give your opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often debated between students whether they want to learn additional subjects with their main curriculum or they should focus focus more on their main academic subjects. Although focusing on main subjects is far more important, learning some additional subjects can make a significant improvemnt in their overall personality. Therfore, I believe that students should be eager to learn vocaniol subjects.
one school of thought is that university students should pay more attention and time to their core subjects. This is primarily because these subjects give them a better foundation for their future career and opportunities. Since disciple prioritised their major subjects, they will have a better understanding of their subjects and aspects related to their qualifications.By paying more attention towards subjects such as physics and mathematics, students are more likely to be get enrolled in jobs such as commercial pilot and software engineer. As a result, their future will be secure and they will enjoy a considerably good lifestyle.
on the other hand, some students believe that they should learn some additional subjects such as any foreign language and soft skills with their core subjects. By learning vocational subjects , students can explore their hidden skills. Although additional subjects might put a academic pressure on students, this can help them to experience different sorts of things.Consequently, learning additional subjects can help students to get different work opportunites and experience.
In conclusion, focusing more on core subjects might help students to secure good jobs, while by learning additional academic subjects can assist studnets in exploring themselves. Thus, i strongly believe that disciples should give time to vocational subjects while prioritising their main subjects.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and state a clear preference: the introduction says core subjects are more important, while the conclusion supports learning vocational subjects alongside them. Relevant reasons include career preparation and the possibility of gaining additional skills or work opportunities. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the link between prioritising a major and a “secure” future is broad, and the benefits of learning another subject are not illustrated with a specific example. Your position also shifts slightly: the opening prioritises core subjects, whereas the final sentence emphasises vocational subjects without clearly explaining how students should balance the two. Develop each view with a concrete example and make that balance explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The contrast between the views is easy to follow, and signposts such as “on the other hand” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. Some connections, however, feel mechanical or unclear. The opening sentence repeats “focus,” and the transition from the claim that core subjects are more important to the final recommendation to prioritise vocational subjects is not fully explained. Within paragraphs, ideas sometimes move quickly from a reason to a result—for instance, from studying physics and mathematics to securing a good lifestyle. Use clearer links to show how each example supports the point, and vary transitions while maintaining consistent paragraph development.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “foundation,” “qualifications,” “vocational subjects,” and “work opportunities,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling reduce precision. “Hidden skills” is less natural than “untapped abilities,” while “a academic pressure” and “considerably good lifestyle” are awkward combinations. Several spelling errors, including “improvemnt,” “Therfore,” “opportunites,” and “studnets,” are noticeable. Some terms are also used inconsistently: “additional subjects,” “vocational subjects,” and “additional academic subjects” may not mean the same thing. Choose precise terms for the subjects being discussed and check spelling and common word partnerships.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession clause (“Although additional subjects might put…”) and a reason clause beginning “Since.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. Examples include “whether they want to learn … or they should focus,” where the alternatives are not parallel, and “students are more likely to be get enrolled,” which has an incorrect verb construction. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “put a academic pressure” and the missing space after “qualifications.” Capitalisation is inconsistent at the start of paragraphs and with “i.” Review verb patterns, articles, parallel structures, and punctuation; more accurate control of these forms would make your varied sentences clearer.
