IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. Others believe it is more important to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification. Discuss both these views and give your opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
All the students are not equal traits. Some are quick learner and some are average learner. So it leaves on the students either they choose extra subjects or not. Teachers only inform about the benefits of studying extra subjects
Selecting extra subjects give the students an extra edge in gaining the opportunity. They can go in different fields after completing their studies. Every one has different habits some prefer entertainment and some love books. This shows till the end of the world readers will remain. When radio came people thought this signals of diminishing the books. But these students negate the notion. Schools should creat interest of reading through extra curricular activities. When students come to know the benefit of studying of extra subjects they don't prepare them self for it rather they already have practice they already learn from school. In today era many engineers learn python as an extra subjects to compete in the market and it really helps them
Beyond the fact of extra reading, there are many students whose goal are to complete the current subjects. This because of lack of interest in studies or may be have focus on some other projects. They may have plan to start business or to run family business or having focus on lonely specific field related to studies. Rather than that they have some fear as compared to earlier students. We also know some person like popular cricketer and singer who solely completed the studies and got perfection in the other profession.
Overall, both have their own benefits ,the thing is focus and have some goals in mind so they become successful in their life's.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both views: it explains that additional subjects can broaden career options, using engineers who learn Python as an example, and that some students prefer to concentrate on their main studies or other goals. However, the discussion is only partially developed. The point about reading, radio and books is not clearly connected to learning additional academic subjects, and the examples of a cricketer and singer do not explain how focusing on a qualification leads to success. Your own position is also difficult to identify: the conclusion says both choices have benefits but does not clearly state which view you support or under what circumstances. Develop each side with a direct explanation and relevant example, then state your opinion explicitly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some organisation: the first main section discusses extra subjects, the next turns to students who focus on their current studies, and a final sentence attempts to conclude. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear. The shift from career opportunities to reading habits and the history of radio feels abrupt, while phrases such as “Beyond the fact of extra reading” do not clearly signal the next argument. Connections between sentences are also weak, and the conclusion does not draw together the two views. Use a clear introduction, one focused paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that states your position. Link each example directly to the point it supports, and use referencing and transitions more precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant vocabulary, including “extra subjects,” “qualification,” “compete in the market,” and “family business,” so the reader can follow the general topic. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “extra edge in gaining the opportunity,” “diminishing the books,” and “focus on lonely specific field.” These expressions sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to interpret. There are also spelling and word-form problems, including “creat” and “extra curricular.” Aim for more precise academic phrasing and check common collocations. For example, describe how additional subjects “broaden career prospects” and how students “specialise in a particular field.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentence forms, for example, “They may have plan to start business or to run family business,” but control is inconsistent, and many sentences contain errors that can make the reader pause. Examples include “All the students are not equal traits,” “This because of lack of interest,” and “some person … who solely completed the studies.” Agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction need attention. Punctuation and spacing are also unreliable, particularly where sentences run together or commas are separated from the preceding word. Build accuracy first with clear simple sentences, then add controlled complex structures using clauses such as “because” and “although.” Proofread each sentence for a subject, a correctly formed verb, and necessary articles.
