Student answer (Band 4.5)

In the modern era, some students and youngsters want to multitask. It is not just to pass the time, but it is due to their interest. Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subject. While others believe it is more important to give all their time and attention to studying only for a qualification.

Both statements are correct according to people's own point of view. But in my point of view, if any student is willing to learn additional subjects with their main subjects, it is totally alright and acceptable according to their own interest. There are some students who like to learn skills and new subjects besides their studies, which will help them to do well in their career. Moreover, some students believe that if they do the things in which they are interested, they will succeed.

Furthermore, talking about those people who only want to study for qualification is totally wrong. Whatever people do in their life has some motive behind it. It is worthless to study only for qualification. Everyone should have some aim to do well in their life not only for study but for lifestyle as well as for their future.

In conclusion, parents should allow their children to study other subjects according to their will so that they can do with their interest and can get succeed in their life. because students should put their interests first and parents and teachers should help them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You express a preference for students exploring additional subjects, and you give relevant reasons, such as developing skills and pursuing interests. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the second view is not fairly explained: calling it “totally wrong” and “worthless” replaces discussion of why students may focus on a qualification, such as career requirements or limited time. Your position is present, but it is not consistently supported with specific examples. The response also contains 218 words, below the required 250; 29 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop both perspectives and add a concrete example to each before stating your conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, paragraphs presenting your view and the contrasting view, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” help signal additions. However, progression is limited because the second body paragraph mainly rejects the qualification-focused view rather than explaining it, and the conclusion repeats the preference for interests without drawing together a balanced discussion. Some connections are unclear, particularly “Everyone should have some aim to do well in their life not only for study but for lifestyle as well as for their future.” Use topic sentences that identify each viewpoint, then connect reasons to examples and the final opinion. This would make the organisation more coherent and the links less repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the general topic, including “qualification,” “additional subjects,” “skills,” and “career.” There are also attempts at more expressive phrasing, such as “put their interests first.” However, the range is limited and several choices are repetitive or imprecise: “totally alright and acceptable,” “do well in their life,” and “worthless” do not express the arguments with much precision. Some collocations are awkward, including “get succeed” and “study for qualification.” Aim for more specific academic wording to explain the benefits and drawbacks of each approach, and vary repeated references to “students” and “subjects.” More accurate collocations would make your ideas clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and longer sentences, including conditional structures such as “if they do the things in which they are interested, they will succeed.” Meaning is generally understandable, but errors recur and some sentence structures are incomplete or awkward. “While others believe…” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence, and “because students should put their interests first” is incorrectly separated from the preceding sentence and begins with a lowercase letter. There are also problems with verb forms and agreement in “can get succeed” and “if any student is willing … it is totally alright.” Practise joining dependent clauses to complete sentences and check subject–verb agreement and verb patterns when editing.
