Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some higher education students show interest in learning other courses in addition to their own major subjects. While others believe that it is necessary to give proper focus on core subjects instead of additional courses to complete their qualification. This essay will discuss both views before giving my own opinion.

To begin with, in real file problems not related to singal field, mutli-disciplane skills provide a addition opportunities to solve complex problems and more jobs options. If engineers and science student learn business subject, comunication with core subject, they have enough knowlege to handle different taks , leads a teams a in better ways. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You introduce both perspectives and give relevant reasons: interdisciplinary study may help students solve complex problems and improve job prospects, while concentrating on a demanding qualification may protect grades and research quality. However, the response is incomplete: the second view receives only brief explanation, and your own opinion is not stated, despite the introduction promising one. The examples are also too short to show clearly how the benefits or drawbacks arise. The response is 175 words, below the required 250, so there is not enough development to address the task fully. To improve, state your position explicitly and extend each main point with explanation and a specific, relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting the case for additional subjects, and a contrasting paragraph about focusing on a qualification. Signposts such as “To begin with” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the shift between views. However, the progression within paragraphs is limited, and the final paragraph ends without a conclusion or a clear statement of your position. Some links between ideas are also unclear, particularly in the sentence beginning “If engineers and science student learn business subject,” where the relationship between learning business and leading teams is difficult to follow. Develop each paragraph around one clear claim, explain it in sequence, and add a concluding paragraph that brings the discussion together.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “core subjects,” “complex problems,” “qualification,” and “quality of research.” These choices show an effort to discuss university study beyond very basic terms. However, spelling errors and inaccurate or unnatural word combinations are frequent enough to make parts of the response difficult to understand, as in “real file problems,” “mutli-disciplane skills,” and “lunch tech product.” Some expressions, such as “more jobs options,” are also imprecise. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common academic collocations, then use them consistently. For example, “interdisciplinary skills” and “launch a technology product” would express your intended meanings more clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple sentences and more complex forms, including a contrast introduced by “While” and a conditional example beginning “If.” This gives the response some structural variety. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction can make meaning unclear. For example, “science student learn” needs plural agreement, while “they succesfuly lunch tech product” lacks a correctly formed verb and article. The opening “While others believe…” is also a fragment rather than a complete sentence. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then combine them with clauses using “while,” “because,” and “if.” Proofread each sentence for a complete main clause and correct agreement.
