Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's world, education plays a crucial role in students' lives. Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. Others believe it is important to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification. Both statements have their own advantages, but I believe learning other subjects can be more beneficial for students' careers.
On the one hand, studying more subjects with their main subjects can help students to develop more skills and increase their knowledge. For Example, a student is studying computer science and also learning business management or communication skills. These courses will help him to find a good job in the future. Moreover, learning different subjects will allow students to improve their knowledge and confidence. As a result, they will become more skilled and confident in their professional lives.
On the other hand, some students want to focus and spend all their time studying for a qualification. Just because university subjects are more difficult and require proper time and attention. For example, medical students need to focus on their studies because they have to understand the complex subjects and develop practical skills. If students spend too much time studying other subjects, they may not get good marks in their main subjects. Therefore, focusing on one subject can help students understand it better.
In my opinion, studying the main subject is important, but learning other subjects can also be helpful. Students should manage their time so they can learn new things without affecting their studies.
In conclusion, both views have benefits. However, I believe that students should learn other subjects along with their main subjects because it can help them develop new skills and get better jobs in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and give a clear opinion: you explain that additional subjects can build skills and career prospects, while focused study is important for demanding qualifications such as medicine. The examples are relevant, and your conclusion restates your preference. However, the two sides are not developed equally in depth. The benefits of studying other subjects are described broadly, and the point about managing time is introduced without explaining how students could do this in practice. The argument for focusing on a qualification is clearer, but could also explore consequences beyond marks. To strengthen the response, explain each main reason further and use a specific example to show how the competing priorities affect students.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. Some connections are mechanical, however, and the sentence beginning “Just because university subjects are more difficult” is a fragment that interrupts the flow of the second body paragraph. The opinion paragraph also repeats ideas that appear in the conclusion rather than advancing the discussion. For stronger cohesion, connect reasons and examples more smoothly, avoid relying mainly on formulaic transitions, and ensure each paragraph develops a distinct step in the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use adequate vocabulary to discuss education and employment, including “qualification,” “practical skills,” and “professional lives.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and there is some attempt to use topic-specific language. However, several words and phrases are broad or repeated, particularly “subjects,” “help,” “important,” and “good.” Some combinations are also imprecise, such as “studying more subjects with their main subjects” and “get better jobs.” More precise collocations would make the argument sound more natural and allow you to express distinctions between academic focus, transferable skills, and career outcomes. Aim to vary repeated terms and choose vocabulary that describes the specific benefit or risk you mean.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, and most of the meaning remains clear. Conditional structures such as “If students spend too much time studying other subjects, they may not get good marks” are effective, while the examples are generally expressed in understandable sentences. Some grammatical errors remain. “Just because university subjects are more difficult and require proper time and attention” is an incomplete sentence; it needs to be joined to the preceding sentence or rewritten with a main clause. In “For Example, a student is studying,” the example would be clearer with a complete, consistently framed construction. To improve, check that every sentence has a complete main clause and review punctuation and sentence boundaries.
