Student answer (Band 6.0)

While many university learners want to study about other subjects instead of their main subjects, Others argue that it is more important to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification. Although learning other subjects has some benefits, I believe that students students should give more time on their main subjects because it helps them deeper knowledge and better prepare for their future careers.

To begin with, learning additional subjects can help students gain different types of knowledge. This is because when students learn different subjects, they can understand various topics and develop new skills. In addition, learning other subjects can not only increase students knowledge, but also improve their problem solving skills. For example, engineering students can learn communication skills to explain ideas more clearly. As a result, students can improve their knowledge and also develop new skills.

Another important point is that students should spend more time on their main subjects because this subjects are directly related to their future careers, which i believe is far practical approach. This is mainly because students can get good marks in their examination, if they focus on their main subjects than other subjects. Moreover, if students more attention to their main academic subjects not only gain deeper knowledge, but also better prepare for their future careers. For instance, medical student need to focus on their main academic subjects if they want to become high skill doctor. Consequently, students can gain specialised knowledge and improve their carrer opportunities.

In conclusion, while there are valid arguments of learning other subjects for students have some benefits, I believe that students students should give more time on their main subjects because it helps them deeper knowledge and better prepare for their future careers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both views and state a consistent preference for prioritising a student’s main subject, so the central requirements are covered. The paragraph on additional study gives relevant benefits—broader knowledge and communication skills—and the engineering example helps illustrate one. Your reasons for focusing on the qualification are also relevant, especially the link to career preparation and the medical-student example. However, some points are asserted rather than explained: for instance, the claim that focusing on a main subject leads to better examination marks needs a clearer link to the argument, and the benefits of studying other subjects could be developed further. The conclusion repeats your position but does not add a final synthesis. Develop each view with a fuller explanation and a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally stay focused, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Another important point,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical because several sentences repeat the same idea about gaining knowledge and developing skills. Some references are also unclear, as in “this subjects,” and the opening says students want to study other subjects “instead of” their main subjects, which does not accurately express the task’s idea of studying them in addition. Improve progression by linking each example directly to the point it supports, varying transitions, and avoiding repeated claims in the conclusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “communication skills,” “problem solving skills,” “specialised knowledge,” and “career opportunities.” These choices show an attempt to discuss education and employment beyond very basic terms. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which limits precision: “give more time on” should be expressed differently, “far practical approach” is not idiomatic, and “high skill doctor” does not convey the intended meaning naturally. There are also spelling and form issues, such as “carrer” and “students knowledge.” Aim for more natural academic collocations and check spelling and possessive forms. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish the benefits of breadth from those of specialisation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concessive opening with “Although” and a conditional sentence beginning “if students want to become…”. Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include the duplicated “students students,” subject–verb agreement in “this subjects” and “medical student need,” and missing verbs in “if students more attention…” and “it helps them deeper knowledge.” Articles and punctuation also need attention, as in “a high skill doctor” and the inconsistent capitalisation of “Others” and “i.” These errors do not usually prevent the reader from following your position, but they reduce accuracy. Practise checking each sentence for a complete verb, agreement, articles, and correct capitalisation.
