Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the contemporary society, people thinks that how the students should spend time in the university. Some people believes that students should focus on the main subject in which they are persuing the degree. While others thinks that the students should also give time to others subjects. In my opinion, students should also study wide range of skill which will help them in future.

On the one hand, focusing on the main subject will be beneficial for the student because it helps them to understand the subject in which stream they are studying. University courses are very difficult, mastering the courses require hard work and lot of time needed to understand the subject. However, it focusing on main subject helps the students in getting better grades and acquire deep knowledge in the subject. For example, medical students need to work hard to understand the human antanomy and require lot experience and training to treat the patience. Subsequently, if these student are experts in the field, they will able to secure traditional jobs after the graduation.

On the other hand, learning other subject helps the students to become multi skilled in the society. In the real world the jobs often require skill people at the work place. For instance, to work in the globalised market the employer often required multi skilled labour to fit in the business market.Consequently, if the individual is skilled at only in one field. They will not able to adjust in the business world. Additionally, those students who study the additional subjects like psychology, business, marketing and technology will able understand the minds of the cusumers. This extra knowledge will help them to survive in any workplace and helps in solving the problem.

In conclusion, i believe that student studying the main stream of the subject will make them expert in the field and secure job. while studying the addition subjects will help them survive in any workplace.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response discusses both views and gives a clear opinion: the writer supports studying additional subjects while recognising that specialisation can build expertise and improve job prospects. Relevant examples, such as medical students learning anatomy and students taking psychology or marketing, help address the question. However, some points are more fully explained than others. The case for focusing on a qualification is supported with detail about demanding courses and grades, while the benefits of broader study rely more on general claims about workplace flexibility and understanding customers. The conclusion restates both sides but could make the writer’s preference more explicit and explain why it outweighs the advantages of specialisation. Develop each main claim with a specific consequence or example to make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The progression from the benefits of specialisation to the advantages of broader study is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the organisation clear. This already provides a coherent framework, but some linking is mechanical or imprecise. For example, “Subsequently” does not clearly express the relationship between expertise and securing a job, and “Consequently” introduces a claim that could be connected more directly to the preceding sentence. The final paragraph also repeats earlier points rather than synthesising them. Use clearer cause-and-effect links and refer back to ideas with precise wording to make the flow more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses enough topic-related vocabulary to discuss university study and employment, including “qualification,” “mastering,” “multi skilled,” “globalised market,” and “additional subjects.” These choices show an attempt to go beyond very basic language. However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less precise: “persuing,” “antanomy,” “patience” where “patients” is intended, and “skilled labour” in a context referring to employees. Phrases such as “traditional jobs” and “survive in any workplace” are also vague or unnatural for the intended meaning. Build a more precise range around academic study and transferable skills, and check spelling and common word partnerships. This would make the ideas clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There is an attempt to use both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “which,” and “if.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries occur across the response. For example, “people thinks” and “others thinks” do not agree in number, while “mastering the courses require” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In “they will able to secure,” the verb phrase is incomplete, and “if the individual is skilled at only in one field. They will not able to adjust” incorrectly separates a dependent clause from its main clause. Practise checking each sentence for a complete subject and verb, and review agreement and article use. More accurate control of these patterns would make the complex sentences easier to follow.
