Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some university students wants to learn other additional subjects with their main subjects but some are not willing to learn that subject.
The universities in all over the world teach many additional subjects to the students which are not essential to their degrees. And some students like that subjects because these subjects increases our basic knowledge which assist us in many aspects of life and become very effective in the future. Because in future if a student wants to change his direction in study, he easily moved to that field. I also read many additional subjects such as history, arabic and english with my degree of computer science and these subjects keep me in the touch of our religion and it is very essential for every student.
But some of the student don't want to learn that additional subjects because they want to spend most of time in their main subjects and achieve goals in profession. It is very intriguing thought but additional subjects are still important because it gives us assistance in many other aspects of life. For instance, Isalmiyat help us in our daily life and arabic is necessary to understand our Holy book.
In my opinion, the additional subjects are most important part of every degree and these subjects must be taught with the main subjects. Because the main subjects built our career but the some additional subjects built our mentality. So, I recomends taht universities or colleges who don,t teach additional subjects must start that and built our mind strong with making career.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and give a clear opinion: you explain that additional subjects can broaden knowledge and help students change direction, while others prioritise their main subject and career goals. Your examples from studying history, Arabic and English, and the roles of Arabic and Islamic studies, make the response relevant. However, the opposing view is less fully developed: it is mainly described as wanting to focus on a profession, without explaining when that focus might be beneficial or giving a supporting example. Your own position is clear, but the claim that additional subjects are important for every degree would be stronger with a more specific explanation of how they complement different qualifications. Develop both sides more evenly and connect examples directly to your reasons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: it introduces the issue, discusses the benefits of additional subjects, presents the case for focusing on a main subject, and concludes with your opinion. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking words such as “But,” “For instance,” and “In my opinion” guide the reader. Some connections are mechanical or unclear, however. The opening says some students are “not willing to learn that subject,” but the later discussion is about prioritising their main subject; a more precise introduction would establish the two views. Repeated use of “additional subjects” and “these subjects” also makes the progression feel repetitive. Use clearer references and vary transitions while ensuring each paragraph develops one main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “degrees,” “profession,” “basic knowledge,” and “career.” There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “intriguing thought,” though this phrase does not fit the point naturally. Several word choices and collocations are noticeably inaccurate, including “in all over the world,” “keep me in the touch,” and “built our mentality,” which can make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Spelling errors such as “Isalmiyat,” “recomends,” and “taht” further affect accuracy. Aim for natural academic combinations and check spelling carefully; for example, “broaden students’ knowledge” and “develop critical thinking” express your ideas more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional idea in “if a student wants to change his direction in study” and explanations introduced with “because.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main message is generally understandable. However, errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction recur. For example, “Some university students wants” should use a plural verb, while “these subjects increases” also has incorrect agreement. The sentence beginning “Because in future” is an incomplete construction, and “he easily moved” does not maintain the appropriate verb form. Review subject–verb agreement and practise joining dependent clauses to complete main clauses. More accurate control of these patterns would make your reasoning easier to follow.
