Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is a conflict between the university students regarding to learn new subjects apart from main subjects which helps them to qualify in their exams. Some students believe that there should be an addition of new subject into their syllabus while the rest of them agrees to give attention to the important subjects to study for a qualification. In my opinion I believe that everyone should learn different subjects apart from their main subjects as it helps us to grow in different domain in the future, if we have little knowledge of every subject that is taught in the universities we'll have the brief knowledge of what stream we would like to choose or what job role is suitable for us. Furtheremore there we'll be flexibility in choosing rather than being confused aabout the career.

In my view of wanting to learn new subjects in addition to the main subjects is like killing two birds with one stone that is learning new subjects without having the fear of getting low grade as it won't be counted for qualification as it will be an add-on subject rather than a main one. Moreover having an expertise in additional languages will be a plus point to get a job in different areas relevent to that language.

However, in my view of giving more importance to the main subjects is also valid as it contains qualification marks which is more important than learning new subjects. If the students have an ample of time after preparing the main subjects then I suggest to learn new subjects, although alll students aren't equal in terms of scoring high marks, some face difficulties to pass the subject. So they prefer to give all of their time in studying for the main subjects.

In my conclussion, I believe that students who have additional time after completing their main subjects should go for learning additional subjects

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a clear preference for learning additional subjects, while acknowledging that qualification subjects deserve priority for students who struggle or have limited time. Relevant support includes the possible benefit of exploring career interests and the value of learning languages for employment. However, these points are not developed evenly: the advantages of broader study are explained more fully, whereas the case for concentrating on a qualification is mainly asserted. The claim that extra subjects will not affect grades also needs clarification, since the task does not specify how universities assess them. To strengthen the response, explain the opposing view with a concrete example and make your final position more precise about how students should balance the two.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, discussion of additional subjects, a paragraph on focusing on core subjects, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “However,” and “In my conclusion” help signal the direction of the argument. However, progression is sometimes weakened by repeated framing, particularly “In my opinion” and “In my view,” and the first body paragraph combines several ideas without a clear sequence. Some references are also unclear, such as “it” in the explanation of whether an additional subject counts toward qualification. Organise each body paragraph around one main view, then develop it with a reason and example; use linking phrases selectively and make pronoun references explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “qualification,” “expertise,” “flexibility,” and “career,” and phrases such as “killing two birds with one stone” show an attempt to use less common language. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “conflict between the university students regarding to learn,” “grow in different domain,” and “an ample of time.” Spelling errors such as “Furtheremore,” “relevent,” and “conclussion” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main ideas, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for standard academic collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe students as “exploring other disciplines” rather than “learning new subjects” repeatedly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If the students have an ample of time…” and a contrast introduced by “although.” The main argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “the rest of them agrees” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “There is a conflict … regarding to learn” is not a well-formed grammatical pattern. The opening sentence also runs several ideas together, and the final sentence lacks a full stop. To improve control, use shorter sentences when an idea becomes complex, check singular and plural subjects, and review article use and sentence boundaries.
