IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
While some university students learn extra subjects to their main subjects, others argue that they focus on studying for a qualification. This essay will discuss both perspectives before giving my own opinion on the matter.
Firstly, most of the students want to learn about other subjects after that they have lot of opportuinities in other fields. Learn additional stubjects increase their knowledge about other fields. In most of the universities students read other subjects like communication, social, political subjects. After that, students know how other fields work. For instance, Pakistan, and the Europe, all students learn AI with their courses, because that increases opportunities for them.
Secondly, the students just focused on the qualification subjects, they just have broad knowledge in one field not others. Like, now AI is used in every field, that kinds of students have limit advantages because they did not understand how to used them. For example, Master students just focued on their main subjects, they did not explore other subjects because they have limiting time but high knowlege to their field.
For example, bachelor students have lot of time they studies additional subjects related to their field but master students have short times rather than bachelor. Master students just study their specialize subjects.
According to my opinion, learns leared additional, after students find employment and they have advantage to change their subject. University students also find other jobs, if they did not find jobs to their field.
To sum up, if students learn additional subject they find more employment, other than that they worked on one jobs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and give a preference for learning additional subjects, linking this to employment flexibility and opportunities in other fields. The examples about AI and the different study demands of bachelor’s and master’s students are relevant, so the response is generally on topic. However, the discussion is only partially developed: the case for concentrating on a qualification is described mainly as gaining deep knowledge, without explaining why that focus may be valuable, and the comparison between degree levels is repeated rather than used to develop the argument. Your opinion appears late and is not consistently clear in the opening. State your position directly in the introduction and support each view with a clearer reason and a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an identifiable introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly” and “To sum up” help show the intended structure. However, progression is uneven: the paragraph beginning “For example, bachelor students” repeats the point about master’s students having less time instead of advancing the comparison. Some links are unclear or mechanical, particularly “After that” and “other than that,” which do not express the intended relationships precisely. The conclusion also introduces the employment point without clearly drawing together the two views. Organise the body into one paragraph for each perspective, use linking phrases that show cause, contrast or example accurately, and ensure each paragraph develops a distinct point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “qualification,” “additional subjects,” “employment” and “opportunities,” which allows the main ideas to be understood. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, especially “other subjects” and “main subjects.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, such as “opportuinities,” “stubjects,” “focued” and “knowlege.” Some combinations are unnatural, including “learn extra subjects to their main subjects” and “limit advantages,” which can make the reader pause. Build a more precise range for discussing breadth and specialisation, and check spelling and collocations carefully. For example, use “study subjects alongside their major” and “limited advantages” in place of the less natural wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a reason clause with “because” and a contrast introduced by “while.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction and verb forms. Examples include “most of the students want to learn … after that they have,” where the clauses are not joined correctly, and “students read other subjects,” which does not express the intended action accurately through its grammatical pattern. In “they did not understand how to used them,” the verb form after “to” is incorrect. Articles, plurals and agreement also need attention, as in “one jobs.” Practise building complete sentences with accurate clause links and check verb forms, articles and singular/plural agreement.
