Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, students want to learn about other subjects with their main subjects; however, some believe that it is important to concentrate on their main subjects then exploring other subjects. I believe that the students should concentrate on their main subjects because they might get disract exploring other subjects and end up with bad academic scores. This essay will discuss both the views with relevant examples in the forthcoming paragraphs.
To begin with, the university students often feel in the start of their academic year that they want to opt different subject because they feel the stress about their future. For example, some of the students wants to learn other subjects with their main subjects so that they get more option in the future. Learing more subjects often comes with advantages like better career oppourtunities and better knowledge.
However, there are some drawbacks of studying different subjects with their main subjects. Firstly, the time and attention we spends on the other subjects will leads to bad score in our main subjects and we even get disracted by the difficulty of other subjects which costs us lots of time. Secondly, some of the students even get confused in the mid term because of other subjects. For instance, the student who wants to study microbiology often get disracted by learing chemistry along with it and in the last year they get confused about the subjects so they end up choosing a different subject.
To conclude, learning different subjects often comes with the benefits like better career options and better knowledge; however, I believe that having more options leads to confusion and beacuse of that some students ends up with bad academic results.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and state a clear opinion: you acknowledge that studying additional subjects can bring “better career opportunities and better knowledge,” while arguing that students should focus on their main subject to avoid distraction and weaker results. These points are relevant, and the microbiology example helps illustrate your concern. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the benefits of broader study are asserted rather than explained, and the example about changing subjects is not fully connected to why studying an additional subject causes that outcome. To strengthen the response, explain when broader study is useful and support each main claim with a more specific example or consequence.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. Signposting such as “To begin with,” “However,” and “To conclude” makes the direction of the argument easy to follow. However, some connections are mechanical, and the progression within paragraphs could be clearer. For example, the first body paragraph moves from students’ stress about the future to career opportunities without explaining the link. In the second, the microbiology example introduces confusion and changing subjects, but the relationship to the earlier point about time and attention is not fully clarified. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example explicitly to the claim it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “career opportunities,” “academic scores,” “concentrate,” and “drawbacks.” These choices allow you to discuss both the benefits and risks of studying additional subjects. However, some wording is repetitive or imprecise, particularly repeated uses of “other subjects” and “main subjects,” and several spelling errors reduce accuracy, such as “disract,” “Learing,” and “oppourtunities.” Some phrases are also unnatural, including “opt different subject” and “get more option.” Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated terms—for example, use “elective courses” or “broader study” where appropriate. Proofreading spelling and word forms would make your ideas more polished.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “however” and a reason clause with “because.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some errors in agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction affect accuracy. For example, “some of the students wants” should use a plural verb, while “the time and attention we spends … will leads” contains several agreement and verb-form problems. The opening sentence also has an unclear comparison in “concentrate on their main subjects then exploring other subjects.” Practise checking subject–verb agreement and keeping verb forms consistent, especially in longer sentences. Breaking complex ideas into two well-controlled clauses can also improve clarity.
