Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You introduce the two positions and give relevant examples, including the medical student who focuses on clinical study and the computer science student who benefits from business or communication. However, the response only addresses the task minimally: the discussion of studying a qualification is brief, the case for learning other subjects is not clearly developed, and your opinion is cut off at “some student rec”. As a result, your position is not established and the task’s main ideas lack explanation and support. The response is 145 words, below the required 250; 32 words copied from the prompt were not counted. To improve, complete your opinion, explain both views in separate developed paragraphs, and add specific reasoning or examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is an attempt to organise the response into paragraphs, and signposts such as “FIRSTLY” and “secondly” indicate that you are listing reasons. However, the ideas are not arranged in a clear, coherent progression: the opening repeats the prompt, the paragraph beginning “There are strong reason” shifts between qualification-focused study and an example, and the next paragraph introduces benefits of broader study without a clear transition. The final paragraph is incomplete, so the argument has no conclusion. Some links between claims and examples are also unclear. Plan one paragraph for each view, followed by a conclusion stating your opinion, and use linking phrases to show how each example supports its point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “qualification”, “transferable skill”, “employability”, “clinical practice” and “personal growth”. These choices show some range beyond basic everyday language. However, spelling and word-choice errors are frequent enough to make parts difficult to interpret, as in “dispiline”, “concetrate”, “antonomy” and “edage”. Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “skill doctor” and “valuable transferable skill”. Aim to check spelling carefully and learn common academic collocations, for example “develop transferable skills” and “become a skilled doctor”. More accurate use of the vocabulary you already attempt would make your ideas clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You make some attempts to connect ideas in longer sentences, such as the example beginning “A computer science student who also studies…”, and you use a conditional comparison with “who… is more likely to…”. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction are frequent. Examples include “There are strong reason”, “Degree are becoming”, and “a medical students”; the final sentence is unfinished, while punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent. These problems sometimes make it hard to follow the intended meaning. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, checking singular and plural forms, and using full stops to separate ideas.
