Student answer (Band 6.0)

Over the time students often argued whether they should study a new subject along with their main topics or they solely stayed focused on their academic subject . Here i will discuss both view points and later will give my opinion.

Learning a extra topics is a voluntary steps for any students and it depends on their interest . It also expand their knowledge and also helps to get different kinds of job. For instance, if a engineering student also learn about business it will help him to understand both technical and commercial setup of a product . He will stay ahead of many candidates during job interview and that knowledge will also help him after the graduation life. But it also has some drawback such as one can find it difficult to cope with two different topics and may end up with bad result .

However, giving full attention only for one qualification gives student a clear definite goal. They didn't struggle between two choice and gives full effort in one direction . Such students often achieve extraordinary result in their relative field as they stay consistent in one subject. But with mediocre result they may fall behind of those who had two skills.

In conclusion , both ideas has their own advantages and disadvantages. But in this current competitive world student must need to learn as many skill as they can which will help them to choose various carrier path. So for this reason i think learning a addition subject is more helpful.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state a clear preference for learning an additional subject, so the response covers the main parts of the task. The engineering-and-business example makes the benefits concrete, and you also recognise that dividing attention can lead to weaker results. The case for focusing on one qualification is less fully developed: “a clear definite goal” and consistency are mentioned, but the practical value of deeper expertise or how this could benefit a student is not explained with an example. Your conclusion restates your position, although “learn as many skill as they can” is broad and would be more convincing if qualified. Develop both sides with similarly specific reasoning to make the discussion more balanced and complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “For instance,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion, and the ideas generally progress in a sensible order. Some linking is mechanical or imprecise, however. The opening says “Here I will discuss,” which announces the structure rather than presenting the argument, while “But with mediocre result” does not clearly show how this point relates to the preceding claim. There are also unclear references, such as “that knowledge” and “those who had two skills.” Use more precise links between claims and explain the contrast between strong results in one field and the advantage of having two skills.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “qualification,” “commercial,” “consistent,” and “competitive,” and the example about combining engineering with business shows an attempt to express specific ideas. However, the range is uneven, with repeated general words such as “subject,” “help,” and “students,” and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make parts less natural. Examples include “a extra topics,” “different kinds of job,” “graduation life,” and “various carrier path.” These choices are understandable in context but sometimes make the reader pause. Build a more precise range for discussing academic study and career outcomes, and check word forms, spelling, and common word partnerships before finalising the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional example beginning “if an engineering student…” and a contrast introduced by “However.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur in agreement, articles, verb forms, and punctuation. For example, “It also expand” needs subject–verb agreement, “a voluntary steps” combines an incorrect article with a plural noun, and “both ideas has” has an agreement error. In “They didn't struggle … and gives full effort,” the verb forms do not match the subject or tense. Capitalisation and spacing around punctuation are also inconsistent. Review agreement and article use, then proofread each sentence for consistent verb forms; this will make your varied sentence attempts more controlled.
