Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You discuss both positions and make your preference clear: you support studying additional subjects while prioritising the main qualification. The points about breaking monotony, gaining practical skills, and building a career are relevant, as is the chemistry example for the opposing view. However, some ideas are not fully explained. The link between poor performance, stress and learning other subjects is asserted rather than shown, and the Hardik Pandya example does not clearly demonstrate how studying additional university subjects benefits students. The reference to PhD research is also broad and does not directly explain the value of concentrating on a qualification. Develop each example and connect it explicitly to the argument it supports.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a concluding opinion. This helps the reader follow the main discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear. The second paragraph moves from poor performance to stress, then to other subjects, without clearly explaining the relationship between these points. Linking phrases such as “Others have contrast views” and “Overall” signal transitions, but some connections feel mechanical or imprecise. The conclusion repeats the main position but could more clearly reconcile the two views. Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s central claim, and add explicit links showing how each example supports that claim.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “cognitive skills,” “academic stress,” “pragmatic skills,” “strong foundation,” and “pivotal.” These choices show an effort to use more specific academic language, and the meaning is generally understandable. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “university pupils,” “development of boredom,” “mental heath,” and “cricketor” weaken precision. “Good qualification” is also unclear in the example. Aim for natural academic combinations and check spelling carefully. For instance, use “university students,” “become bored,” and “mental health”; choose wording that precisely describes Pandya’s education and career rather than leaving the example ambiguous.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses with “as” and “which,” and the main ideas remain understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “Having extra skills in other subjects help” needs subject–verb agreement, while “Other subjects such as science … which students are eager to learn” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. Several sentences also begin with “As,” creating dependent clauses without a main clause, as in “As it will help to gain higher academic scores.” Punctuation and spacing around commas and full stops are inconsistent. Practise checking that every sentence has a complete main clause and that subjects agree with their verbs.
