Student answer (Band 5.0)
Over the recent few decades, education plays an important role in the life of youngones to achieve future success. Therefore, few college scholars prefer to acquire additional subjects with main ones, while other students argue that they should spend more time in superior subjects than inferior ones. This essay will intend to discuss both viewpoints along with my opinion in the enumerated paragraphs.
To commence with, there are various reasons why additional subjects are beneficial for their studies. First and formost is that tutees always choose those subjects in which they have more interest. To explain it, it is easier for them to understand those subjects than unfavourable subjects. As a result, they will score good marks which help them to make it passion. They can secure their future. Secondly, they thought that they have more time free after academic subjects, thus for their leisure time they choose subjects such as, dance and IT. Resultantly, these both sectors gain much of success nowadays so, in many colleges they give option to choose these subjects from others.
On the other hand, opponents believe that they should utilise much of their time to important subjects. Firstly, for future aspect, qualified subjects are more necessary for job prefernces. Most of the companies always prefer good candidates who have good academic results. As a consequence, they should spend much of their time in these subjects. Moreover,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You introduce both views and give a relevant reason for each: additional subjects may reflect students’ interests, while qualification-related subjects may improve job prospects. However, the response addresses the task only partially. The second viewpoint is cut off after “Moreover,” and there is no developed conclusion or clear statement of your own opinion, despite the introduction promising one. Several points are also unclear or insufficiently supported, such as how leisure subjects help students “secure their future.” The response is 232 words, below the required 250, which further limits the development of your ideas. To strengthen the response, complete the discussion of both positions, state your view explicitly, and support each main point with a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction followed by one paragraph for each viewpoint, and signposts such as “To commence with,” “On the other hand,” and “Firstly” help readers identify the shift in argument. However, progression is incomplete because the final paragraph stops at “Moreover,” leaving the essay without a finished argument or conclusion. Some links are mechanical or unclear: “Resultantly” does not clearly show how the preceding point leads to the claim about colleges, and “these both sectors” has an uncertain reference. Improve cohesion by connecting each reason explicitly to the task, using clear pronouns and transitions, and ensuring the final paragraph completes the discussion and leads to a concluding opinion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “additional subjects,” “academic results,” “qualified subjects,” and “job preferences.” This shows some willingness to use less common expressions, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “college scholars” is not a natural term for university students, “make it passion” does not express the intended idea clearly, and “qualified subjects” is an unsuitable phrase for subjects studied towards a qualification. There are also spelling errors such as “formost” and “prefernces.” Aim for precise, natural collocations and check spelling; simpler accurate wording will communicate your ideas more effectively than ambitious but unclear phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a cause-and-effect structure in “As a consequence, they should spend much of their time in these subjects.” Some sentences communicate the main idea successfully, but errors in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction remain noticeable. For example, “education plays” does not fit the past-time framing “Over the recent few decades,” and “they thought that they have more time free” shifts tense inconsistently. The opening sentence also lacks a clear grammatical connection between “Therefore” and the two groups of students. Practise maintaining consistent tense and building complete, clearly linked clauses. Review punctuation around introductory phrases and lists so that longer sentences remain easy to follow.
