Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some students believe that they should study other subjects in addition to their main course. However, others think that they should focus only on their main subjects. I believe that both are important, nut students give their more attention to their main subjects.

To begin with, learning addiotional subjects provide students with extra knowledge and useful skills. It helps them explore different fields and learn new skillls. These new skills can create more job opportunities in the future. For example, nursing students can learn computer skills and business managment along with their main subjects. This knowledge may help them manage a hospital or use of modren medical technology. Therefore, studying subjecta can be beneficial for students' future careers.

However, some people think that students should focus on their more on their main subjects because they are more important for their future careers. University education often required alot of time and hard-work. If students spend more time in other subjects, they might not prepare well for their main exams. For instance, nursing students may need to study anatomy, medicines and patient care carefully to become a skilled nurses. Therefore, giving more attention to their main subjects can helps students to achieve better results and find a good jobs in the future.

In conclusion, although learning additional subjects can help students gain extra knowledge and develop useful skills, main subjects helps in better future development. However, I believe that students should give more attention to their main subjects because they are essential for achieving good results and building a successful career.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and give a clear opinion: additional subjects can broaden skills, but students should prioritise their main course. The nursing examples are relevant and help explain both sides, particularly the contrast between learning computer or business skills and studying anatomy and patient care. This meets the task well, though the development is uneven: the benefits of extra subjects are explained in general terms, while the reasons for prioritising the qualification receive more specific support. The conclusion restates your position, but “main subjects helps in better future development” is unclear and does not fully express the comparison. To strengthen the response, explain more precisely how broader study benefits students and make the concluding judgement clearer.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a coherent overall structure: the introduction presents the two views, separate body paragraphs discuss each, and the conclusion gives your opinion. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “However,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. The examples also sit in the relevant paragraphs. Some cohesion is mechanical, however, because several sentences begin with “Therefore,” and the repeated nursing-student example makes the discussion feel less varied. There is also a confusing phrase in the second body paragraph, “focus on their more on their main subjects,” which interrupts the flow. Use a wider range of links and clearer references between ideas, and ensure each paragraph develops its point without repeating the same example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “job opportunities,” “main subjects,” “patient care,” and “medical technology.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “manage a hospital” and “achieve better results.” However, the range is limited and some word choices or forms are inaccurate, including “learning additional subjects provide,” “use of modern medical technology,” and “a skilled nurses.” Spelling errors such as “addiotional,” “managment,” and “modren” are noticeable and reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim to check spelling carefully and learn common academic collocations, for example, “broaden their skill set” and “meet the requirements of their qualification.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If students spend more time in other subjects, they might not prepare well” and a concession in the conclusion beginning “although.” Meaning is generally clear, but errors in agreement, verb forms, and articles occur in several places. For example, “learning additional subjects provide” should have a singular verb, while “main subjects helps” has the opposite agreement problem. “University education often required” also uses an unsuitable verb form, and “become a skilled nurses” has an article–plural mismatch. The sentence “they should focus on their more on their main subjects” is structurally faulty. Review subject–verb agreement and article use, then proofread each sentence for a complete, grammatical structure.
