Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You express a preference for combining a main subject with additional technical skills, and the example of your friend applying for an IT-related job is relevant to employability. However, the response does not explain the opposing view—that students should devote all their time to their qualification—or develop a clear comparison of the two positions. Your own view is difficult to identify precisely, and several points about universities, teachers and the job market are stated without explanation or support. The response is also 90 words below the required minimum, leaving too little space to address the task fully. To improve, explain both views, state your opinion directly, and develop each main point with a clear reason and a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to move from a general opening to your opinion and then to an example about your friend. That gives the reader some sense of the intended direction. However, the ideas are not arranged into clear, developed paragraphs, and the progression is difficult to follow: the discussion shifts from technical skills to teachers, university chancellors, graduates and companies without showing how each point connects. Linking expressions such as “Along with” and “For instance” are attempted, but they do not create a consistent argument, and “then” does not clearly connect the preceding idea. Organise the response into an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion, using clear references and links between related ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some vocabulary relevant to education and employment, including “major subject,” “technical skills,” “global market” and “Information technology field.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the topic rather than relying only on very general words. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unclear, as in “read about more subjects in also their main subjects,” “studying for a skills,” and “defined own the experties.” Spelling errors such as “openion,” “dificult” and “universites” also reduce clarity. Build a more reliable set of topic phrases and check spelling and word forms. For example, use “study additional subjects alongside their major” and “demonstrate his expertise” to express your ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both short statements and longer sentences, including “For instance, My friend completed degree in universits” and a sentence beginning “Along with their major subject.” However, sentence structures are often incomplete or difficult to interpret, and there is little evidence of controlled complex grammar. Errors include missing articles in “completed degree,” unclear subject–verb relationships in “The universites chancelor to want,” and inconsistent sentence boundaries and capitalization. These problems make several ideas hard to follow, even when the intended meaning can be guessed. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then add one supporting clause at a time. Check articles, verb forms, agreement and punctuation when editing.
