Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is sometimes argued that university students should learn about other subjects with their main subjects, while other beleive that studnent should only pay attention to those subjects which are important for qualification. This essay will discuss both views before concluding that university student should pay attention on their main subjects rather than additional subjects.

on the one hand those who beleive that university sudent should ;earn other subjects give their significant reasons for their view. the most important reason is that students get knowledge about other additional subjects. In simple words, if student learn other subjects with their main subjects so they not only become experts in their main subject but also have deep knowledge about other subjects which enhance their knowledge and it become benefical their future. Another aspect is that if students study only their main subject and due to this at a time they become bored. In simple terms student do not pay attention in their subject because they have lack of interest but if they learn other subjects with their main subjects so they never get bored because they have variety of subjects for gain knowledge,

on the other hand some individual deem that university should only study their main subjects which play crucial role in their qualification. They beleive this because if some students have dream to become doctor, scientiest and engineer so they should need to pay more attention to their main subjects. In other words, if student learn additional subjects with their main subjects so it create more pressure on students and some time their marks also effect with this burden. Furthermore, student become experts if they learn only their main subjects rather than other subjects.

In conclusion, i beleive that university student should study their main subjects because these are helpful for to acheive their goals and they become expert in their main subject if they pay attention to the main subjects instead of other subjects.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear opinion: the introduction and conclusion favour focusing on main subjects. The supporting points are relevant, including broader knowledge and reduced boredom on one side, and pressure and qualification-related goals on the other. However, some ideas are asserted rather than explained. For example, the claim that studying additional subjects prevents boredom would be stronger with a specific illustration, and the point about becoming an expert through focusing on one subject needs more explanation. Your position is clear, but the essay would be more convincing if each main reason were developed with a concrete example and the conclusion briefly reflected the discussion of both views.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “on the one hand” and “on the other hand” help signal the change in perspective, and the ideas generally follow a sensible order within each paragraph. Cohesion is sometimes mechanical, however, because several sentences begin with “In simple words,” “In simple terms,” or “In other words,” even when they repeat rather than clarify the preceding point. Some links between claims are also unclear, particularly the move from students’ lack of interest to the benefit of studying a variety of subjects. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make the relationship between each reason and its explanation more explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “qualification,” “additional subjects,” “experts,” and “pressure.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “play a crucial role.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the reader pause: “pay attention on,” “benefical their future,” and “marks also effect with this burden” do not express the intended meaning clearly. Spelling errors such as “beleive,” “studnent,” and “scientiest” are noticeable, and repeated use of “main subjects” and “other subjects” limits variety. Build accuracy with common academic collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if students study only their main subject…” and clauses introduced by “because” and “while.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main message is usually understandable. However, errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and verb forms recur. For example, “if student learn” needs a plural or correctly formed singular subject and verb, while “university student should pay attention” is missing appropriate plural marking or an article. The long sentence beginning “In simple words, if student learn…” also contains several clauses joined without clear control. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and article use, and divide long sentences when their structure becomes difficult to manage.
