Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many students argue that they should gain knowledge about various subjects in addition to their main subjects, while others believe that it is necessary to use all their time and focus on a particular field of study to become qualified in the respective field.

On the one hand, proponents of studying multiple subjects together argue that mastering in different branches of knowledge is crucial to become competitive in today's job market. In today's globalized economy, it is not enough to have knowledge that limited to a particular field only because when students will become employees in various organisation they need to take strategic decisions based on numerous factors. Such as risk, socital values and traditions. For example, if accountat students learn accounting principle, finance and budgeting with ethics and technolog related courses , it will be much easier and smother to pursue their carrear with intregrity and efficency.

On the other hand, supporters of the other view claim that focusing on multiple subjects will eventually lead a chaotic situation on students mind. They will be over loaded with different sorts of knowledge without mastering any single field. Moreover, today's world economy is skill based. Students who have skill on specific field they are the highest salary earners. It would be ineffective to mixed up all knowledge courses together to become master of them. For example, doctors need to be proficient in medical courses rather than getting in knowledge from other academic branches like arts, philosophy and music.

I personally believe that, Although students should learn different courses along with main subjects, there are some courses where students should fully focus on their respective course subjects only to become highly qualified in their profession such as doctors in medical school.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and give a qualified opinion: broader study can support employment, while some professions require concentrated specialist training. The examples about accounting and doctors are relevant, and the final paragraph makes your position clear. This meets the task well overall, but the two sides are not developed equally. The benefits of studying other subjects are linked to workplace decisions, yet the explanation remains general; the claim that specialist students are the highest salary earners is also asserted rather than supported. Your conclusion could explain more clearly how students should balance breadth with depth, rather than mainly repeating the contrast. More specific reasoning and examples would make the response more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a concluding opinion. The signposts “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” make the discussion easy to follow, and the examples are placed alongside the relevant arguments. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes weakened by abrupt or unclear connections. For instance, “Such as risk, socital values and traditions” is a sentence fragment, and the link between specialist knowledge and higher salaries is not explained. The conclusion begins with “Although” but does not complete a clear contrastive structure. Use cohesive devices more naturally and make the relationship between each claim, explanation, and example explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “globalized economy,” “strategic decisions,” “proficient,” and “qualified.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common terms. However, inaccurate spelling and word choice are noticeable and sometimes make the phrasing less natural: “socital,” “accountat,” “carrear,” and “smother” appear in the accounting example, while “mastering in different branches” and “chaotic situation on students mind” are awkward collocations. There is also repetition of “knowledge,” “subjects,” and “field.” Check spelling carefully and learn common word partnerships, such as “gain expertise in” and “a chaotic situation for students,” to improve precision and fluency.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including contrast clauses and conditional reasoning, as in “if accountat students learn…” and “Although students should learn…”. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and several sentences are not well controlled. Examples include “knowledge that limited to a particular field,” “when students will become employees,” and “students who have skill… they are the highest salary earners.” The fragment “Such as risk…” also shows a punctuation and sentence-boundary problem. In the conclusion, “Although” introduces a dependent clause without a clearly completed main-clause structure. Practise accurate clause construction, articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
