IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. Others believe it is more important to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification. Discuss both these views and give your opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued by many students that they should be learned other subjects along with their main subject, they contend that they can work in other fields. whereas, rest of the learners belived that it is crucial to be focused on single areas of learning to make your self professtional. I will discuss your both views in this eassy.
commencing with the first point of view, undergraduates describe their perspective that they should be taught other academic courses because of being able to work in different fields to illustrate: Newton the great scientist who knew about physics, mathematics etc and successfully invented a lot of thoeries related to physics such as: light contain seven colours and others spectacular theories. Moreover, he described concept of mathematics like calculus, integration, derivation and other major concepts.
On the other hand, some degree candidates suggest that they should focus on a single qualification just because to be a professional on particuar field and able to grasp the concept profoundly For instance: Quaid-e-Azam Muhummad ali jinnah the famous personality, he focused entirely on law and also his qualification was specialization in law. Furthermore he worked as a member of political parties in subcontinent in nineteens and he successfuly advocated a seperate homeland for muslims and pakistan came into existance.
Overall, several candidates want to be learned other subjects so they could contribute in other fields as well. While, others belived that they ought to concentrated on a single subject in order to master a single subject.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both views by discussing the benefits of studying additional subjects and the value of specialising, and your examples of Newton and Jinnah are relevant to those positions. However, the response does not clearly state your own opinion: “I will discuss your both views” announces the essay’s purpose rather than giving a position, and the conclusion repeats the two views without deciding between them. The examples are also asserted rather than fully explained; for instance, Newton’s achievements are listed, but the link between broad study and students’ future opportunities could be clearer. To strengthen the response, state your view directly in the introduction and conclusion, then explain how each example supports the argument.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph for each viewpoint, and a concluding paragraph. Transitions such as “On the other hand,” “Moreover,” and “Overall” help readers follow the discussion. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The opening sentence joins two contrasting claims with a comma, while “whereas” begins a fragment-like continuation; “I will discuss your both views” also does not clearly guide the reader. The conclusion begins with “While,” but the contrast is not completed in a well-connected sentence. Use clearer sentence boundaries and make the final paragraph synthesise the arguments and your position rather than simply restating both sides.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “qualification,” “professional,” “specialization,” and “master,” and you attempt less common terms such as “profoundly” and “advocated.” However, word choice, collocation, and spelling are often inaccurate, which makes parts of the message difficult to interpret. Examples include “learned other subjects” for studying them, “single areas of learning,” “light contain seven colours,” and “successfuly advocated a seperate homeland.” Several words are also misspelled, including “belived,” “thoeries,” and “existance.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling; a smaller set of well-controlled academic expressions will communicate your ideas more effectively than ambitious but imprecise wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex structures, including clauses introduced by “because” and “who,” and the reader can generally identify the two main viewpoints. However, the range is limited and complex sentences are often faulty. The opening contains a run-on structure (“…main subject, they contend…”) and an incomplete contrast beginning “whereas.” Verb forms are also problematic, as in “they should be learned” and “they ought to concentrated.” Other examples include “Newton…who knew” followed by an unclear sentence structure, and “light contain seven colours,” where subject–verb agreement is missing. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses with correct verb forms, articles, and punctuation.
