Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for self-employment and the disadvantages. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention 'personal freedom' and 'flexible hours' as reasons, these points are not fully extended with specific examples or logical depth. The disadvantages are mentioned, such as 'financial instability' and 'lack of teamwork', but the explanation remains superficial. To improve, you should aim to provide a concrete example for each point—for instance, describing how a lack of a support network in a small business can lead to burnout. The response is somewhat repetitive, which hinders the depth of the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is often interrupted by repetitive phrasing and unclear transitions. For example, the phrase 'This be a case' is used repeatedly, which makes the flow mechanical rather than natural. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often basic or misused, such as the abrupt start to the second paragraph. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'on the other hand') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on simple terms like 'plenty of knowledge' and 'financial good', which are imprecise. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'low working experience with company' and 'learning behaviour for being presented'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to business and employment, such as 'entrepreneurship', 'overhead costs', 'professional isolation', or 'autonomy'. Focus on using words in their correct context to avoid awkward phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people started to work'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'they may can not spent time'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence patterns before attempting more complex ones. Pay close attention to verb tenses and ensure that your sentences are grammatically complete. Proofreading for common errors like 'there' versus 'their' will also significantly improve your accuracy.
