Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for choosing self-employment and the potential disadvantages. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, such as the desire for flexibility and the lack of corporate benefits. However, the development of these points is somewhat basic. While the response covers the requirements, it lacks the depth of analysis expected for a higher band. For example, the discussion on financial liabilities could be expanded with more specific real-world context. Overall, the position is clear, and the response is well-focused on the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used throughout, such as 'The first and foremost', 'What is more', and 'To recapitulate'. While some transitions feel slightly mechanical, they effectively guide the reader through the argument. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the motivations for self-employment to the associated risks. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, which helps maintain the flow of the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'myriad', 'liabilities', and 'recapitulate'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'become open a self-owned business' and 'could proved irrationale'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. To achieve a higher band, you should focus on more natural collocations and ensure that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'People these days, wants', 'employees wants') and verb forms (e.g., 'could proved', 'individuals often lacks'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the main points. The punctuation is generally functional, but the consistent grammatical slips prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and tense consistency would significantly improve your score.
