Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for choosing self-employment and the potential disadvantages. The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the discussion on disadvantages touches on financial instability and lack of benefits, but these points could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The structure is logical, and the response covers all requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'In addition', which help connect the sentences. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with punctuation and sentence structure that occasionally affect the flow. Overall, the information is presented in a coherent manner, and paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of the prompt.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'self-employed', 'job security', and 'business operations'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'insted', 'sel-employed', 'benfits', 'uncertainity', and 'absance', which detract from the overall quality. To improve, focus on accuracy in spelling and try to incorporate a wider range of less common lexical items to demonstrate more precision. The current range is sufficient to convey meaning, but the recurring spelling mistakes prevent a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'no limited' instead of 'not limited', 'effects to financial crises' instead of 'leads to financial crises', and issues with subject-verb agreement. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage in complex sentences. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band. Increasing the variety of error-free complex structures will help improve this score.
