Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for self-employment and the disadvantages. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention financial conditions as a reason, the explanation is repetitive and lacks depth. The disadvantages section touches on financial instability and lack of backup funds, but the argument is hindered by unclear phrasing and a lack of specific, well-explained examples. The conclusion is incomplete and does not effectively summarise the main points, which impacts the overall task response. To improve, ensure each paragraph provides a clear, fully developed argument with a logical link to the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'Furthermore' are used, they are sometimes applied mechanically or incorrectly. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the third paragraph where the connection between 'world business management' and the subsequent point is confusing. The final paragraph is particularly weak, as it ends abruptly mid-sentence, which disrupts the flow and coherence of the conclusion. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each sentence logically follows the previous one will help raise your score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'bank currupt situation' instead of 'bankruptcy' and 'shop vender' instead of 'vendors'. Additionally, there are spelling errors like 'compansation' and 'unstability'. To improve, focus on learning word families and common collocations related to business and employment. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise, academic terms will allow you to express your ideas with greater clarity and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes impede communication. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people wants', 'companies do not provide'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'demerits of owns a business'), and missing articles. Sentence structure is often fragmented, particularly in the final paragraph where the sentence is left unfinished. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring all sentences have a clear subject and verb.
