Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 145 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. The content is repetitive and lacks a clear structure to answer the two specific questions posed: why people choose self-employment and what the disadvantages are. The ideas provided are underdeveloped and often unclear, such as the vague discussion about 'helping the country' or 'solving company problems.' To improve, you must ensure you address both parts of the prompt equally and provide specific, relevant examples to support your arguments. The current response lacks the depth and length required for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a logical progression of ideas. While there is an attempt to use a transition word ('firstly'), the paragraphing is non-existent, and the sentences are often run-on or fragmented. The lack of clear cohesive devices makes it difficult for the reader to follow the argument. The ideas are not organized into distinct paragraphs, which is essential for a Task 2 response. To improve, you should plan your essay into an introduction, two body paragraphs (one for each question), and a conclusion, using linking words like 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' and 'on the other hand' to connect your thoughts.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'thayt' for 'that', 'dicssion' for 'decision', and 'crater' for 'career'. The word choice is often imprecise, making it difficult to convey complex ideas. For example, the phrase 'built crater of company' is unclear. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to employment and business, such as 'entrepreneurship,' 'financial stability,' or 'autonomy.' You also need to pay closer attention to spelling and word formation to ensure your writing is professional and easy to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammar is significantly flawed, with frequent errors in sentence structure, punctuation, and verb tense. Many sentences are run-on, lacking proper punctuation, which makes the text difficult to parse. There are also consistent issues with subject-verb agreement and word order, such as 'many people not choose empioyment'. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, error-prone sentences. To improve, you should practice basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and work on using punctuation correctly to separate distinct ideas. Focusing on accuracy in simple sentences before attempting complex ones will help you progress.
